Song of the Day: Poor Old Lu - All Pretty for the TV

Poor Old Lu are/were one of the most celebrated alternative rock bands in the Christian scene. They hit at the height of the Christian indie scene in the 1990s, and formed a core unit of alternative rock bands that included The Prayer Chain, Plankeye, Starflyer 59 and a handful of others. Hailing from the Seattle area, the band also had close ties with others in the scene like Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, Blenderhead, and even Sunny Day Real Estate (vocalist Jeremy Enigk provided guest vocals on one POL track).… Continued →

Happy Monday, Friends! I’m back after a short hiatus and I’m ready to post some news, so let’s get it on (well, not in that way of course)… Everyone’s favorite metal band – Demon Hunter, are back with a brand new song, music video, and have announced their new album – “Exile”. The new song is titled “Freedom is Dead” and brings some of that early heavy sound off their first 3 albums mixed with equal doses of chaos and well, more chaos. This is the song you’ve wanted to hear from the band and see them perform for years.… Continued →

Demon Hunter Drop New Cover Songs of Face To Face and LIVE

According to the Demon Hunter facebook page, they have dropped two new cover songs but are only available through their Blessed Resistance Club. I am not a member so I can’t vouch for how these sound but if their prior music is any indication, these 2 covers are going to melt my face off, literally (and no pun intended). Demon Hunter cover the classic Face to Face punk rock anthem, “Disconnected”, as well as the hit 90’s alt rock song “Lightning Crashes” from the now classic 1994 rock album “Throwing Copper” by one of my favorite bands, LIVE.… Continued →

Best of 2019: Rob Jensen

2019 had a number of great releases. Check out my favorites below and see what you think. Agree with any of my picks? Give a listen to the ones you are unfamiliar with, you never know, maybe you’ll find something new to listen to!   1.    Slipknot – We Are Not Your Kind. Slipknot returned with their first album in 5 years this past August and based on reactions from fans and critics alike, WANYK has cemented itself as, arguably, one of their best releases to date.… Continued →

25 years of Starflyer 59! (over a dozen contributors)

As you will no doubt have heard, the mighty Starflyer 59 have just released their 15th full-length studio album (not counting dozens of other releases–EPs, 7″ singles, limited edition vinyl, box sets, live albums, etc.) making them officially the most prolific Chrindie band who ever existed.  Their stellar debut album, officially untitled but affectionately known as “Silver,” also turns 25 years old this year.  You can read the IVM review of their latest “Young in My Head” here.  The 15th album/25-year anniversary seemed too grand an occasion to let pass, so .… Continued →

REVIEW : Demon Hunter - Peace

So, it’s been a couple weeks since Zac reviewed Demon Hunter’s “War” album. If you haven’t yet given it a read, you can find it HERE. Go check it out, I’ll wait. Caught up? Good. Now that we’re all on the same page, it’s my turn. Let’s talk about the other album the band released on the same date (yes, a double release), “Peace”. When it came down to reviewing one of the new Demon Hunter albums, I’m not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed to find I’d be reviewing “Peace” rather than “War”.… Continued →

REVIEW : Demon Hunter - War

There’s really no need for any introduction to these giants. However over the years, Demon Hunter’s sound has slowly transformed from that signature “DH” sound to a cleaner vocal driven sound. With mixed responses, Ryan Clark has continued to showcase his pipes with an impressive vocal range and control. So here we are not even two years after Outlive with two brand new albums from the band. The two are musically separated into two categories. War handles the heavier side of Demon Hunter, while Peace handles the softer side.… Continued →

Most Anticipated Releases of 2019: Rob Jensen

So, 2018 is behind us, another year on the books. After having put together a list of my favorite releases for the year, I decided to try going in the opposite direction and form a list of the albums I’m anticipating most in the coming year. Now, a bit of a heads up before we dig in; I am almost certainly missing some albums here. Some may have escaped my attention, and I’m sure there are more to be announced yet as well. All mentioned below I’m sure are coming this year, but a specific date has yet to be given.… Continued →

Demon Hunter Releases Two New Singles

Metal giants Demon Hunter surprised us recently with the announcement that they will be releasing not one album, but two on the same day. The albums titled War and Peace contrast each other with a heavier sound and a softer one respectively. Today, they released a track from each. “On My Side” is a hard hitting melodic piece from War that features one of the most infectious and memorable choruses in Demon Hunter history. From Peace, the title track is reminiscent of “The Heart of a Graveyard.”… Continued →

Ethan Luck "Let it Burn" Out Now

The highly anticipated new album from well seasoned punk rock veteran, Ethan Luck, is out now. The album is jam packed with memorable choruses, bass heavy delivery, and a warm, inviting horn section that will keep you entertained for hours. This 10 track album was funded by fans through Kickstarter with a lot of us getting the vinyl version among other incentives. When I say “Buy it” I don’t mean that lightly. It is my full intention to persuade you, the reader, to drop what you’re doing and support true independent music by purchasing the album.… Continued →

Ethan Luck Launches New Campaign for Ska / Reggae Album

Ethan Luck is a veteran. This seasoned musician and songwriter has been playing on albums for more pretty much all of his entire adult life. He has worked with nearly everyone from Pax (before the ‘217’), Project 86, The Dingees, Value Pac, OC Supertones, Demon Hunter, Relient K, recently as touring musician with Kings of Leon and of course his solo work. This new album will continue some of the more “punk” aspects of his last few solo releases and aim the focus directly at Ska and Reggae sounds, incorporating them in his punk rock aesthetic.… Continued →

Best of 2017: Rob Jensen

2017 was a pretty decent year for music! Between finding newer bands, the resurgence of others from years of inaction, and great albums from bands we’ve come to love and depend on for great music, it was pretty tough to be disappointed. Below, are the 20 albums that I consider to be the year’s best. If there are bands there you haven’t heard of, I hope you check them out, you never know…maybe one of them would’ve made your top spot. And please, drop a line in the comments and let me know your thoughts!… Continued →
