Song of the Day: Michael Knott - Jail

As you’ve undoubtedly already read elsewhere, and seen all over the chrindie corner of the internet, Michael Knott died earlier this week. Much has been written about the man, the music, the iconic artist, so I don’t intend to re-tread any of that ground here. This is a Song of the Day post after all. Nonetheless it does seem fitting to use this week’s SOTD column to feature more of Knott’s work. He wrote and recorded so many incredible albums from the 1980s through the 2020s that it’s hard to pick a “best” or even a “favorite.”… Continued →

Song of the Day: Tonio K. - Without Love

Tonio K. was one of those hard-to-classify artists. He employed elements of rock, alternative, new wave, singer-songwriter, and more. He was too alternative for the mainstream, but not quite weird enough for indie rock. Let’s just call it rock and roll, shall we? Born in Southern California, the son of Armenian immigrants (born Steven Krikorian), K began his career with garage rock band The Raik’s Progress (who opened for Buffalo Springfield), then played a stint with Buddy Holly’s band the Crickets, but he got his first real break with a publishing deal for Intersong.… Continued →

Sierrah Garcia Lyric Video Premiere of "Six Feet Over" at Indie Vision Music January 12th

I’m really excited to share with all of our readers, a brand new song by rising indie singer/songwriter – Sierrah Garcia titled “Six Feet Over”. We will be posting the lyric video for this killer new song over on our YouTube channel January 12th at 8am PST. As soon as the premiere is ready, it’ll be posted here. Please follow the indievisionmusic YouTube channel and subscribe. “Deep-seated in the indie New-Age and Lo-Fi sound and movement, Garcia’s goal is to create her own interpretational genre that offers the listener something easy to listen to, while providing an atmospheric edge that easily caters to the audiences of artists such as Sade, Dido, Sia, Plumb, or Sixpence None the Richer — her music is nothing short of spiritually sound for this up and coming faith-based artist”.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Over the Rhine - Etcetera Whatever

This band has been around since the 90s, maybe even the late 80s, making brilliant folk/pop/rock/blues/adult alternative/whatever type music. They’re the sort of band that other musicians love to love. The core of the band is husband-wife duo Linford Detweiler on piano and Karin Bergquist on vocals. The rest of the band has been a revolving cast, and in the half-dozen times I’ve seen them live, roughly half of those have featured just the pair. They’ve always danced around the edge of whatever “Christian music” means, always dropping hints about their faith, but simultaneously distancing themselves from the industrial machinations of the Christian music industry.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Mike Stand - Footsteps of Love

I don’t know why it took me so long, but recently a very simple thought has helped me out immensely in my spirituality and my walk with Christ. It’s simply this: choose love. That’s it. When I am tempted to sin, choose love instead. When I want to be selfish, choose love. When I want to do something that would only please or elevate myself and not others, choose love. Mike Stand was singing about it decades ago. And of course, the ultimate trump card here is Jesus himself.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Mat Kearney - Billion

Mat Kearney is who I’ve been listening to most the past few years. hailing from Oregon. He has so many songs that I relate to. This love song is dedicated to my girlfriend Mindy whom I had been waiting for my entire life. Also check out One Black Sheep, Heartbeat & Moving On, etc…! When you stopped me in my tracks The very first time Had me going The very first night Waved goodbye, your keys locked inside I knew you were the only one With your crazy voice mail, seen your spotted toes Way funnier than anyone knows With your daddy’s eyes and your grandma’s gun You’re the only one That little crook in your teeth and your 5 inch feet When you tie your hair up in the bun Whatever the weather, we’ll stick together forever ‘Cause you’re the only one Seven billion in the world baby I only wanna be with you I don’t want another girl baby I only wanna be with you Waiting for you all my life I can’t wait another night Seven billion in the world And you’re the only I want, it’s true Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah I only wanna be with Only wanna be with Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah Only wanna be with you You put too much salt on everything you eat Wake up freezing ’cause I stole the sheets And you talk to the wall, pop your gum in your sleep You’re the only one And you worry about your dad on his motorbike The way your voice cracks when you wanna fight And you never wanna sleep so I talk all night To the only one Turn out the lights and hold me tonight We don’t need the sun Whatever the weather, we’ll stick together forever ‘Cause you’re the only one Continued →

Allen Odell just released an inspiring and dreamy sounding new song that is both laid back and poignant at the same time. A telling song for a challenging time we are in. Vanessa From Maine - I Still Have Faith (Ex-One Star Story)

Going way back into the vaults of IVM history a few of you might recall a female led indie pop-rock band called One Star Story. They had news and reviews on this site as well as appeared on multiple compilations. I just got a blast from the past when Vanessa (Rose) emailed me about her new project after more than 6 years away from making music. She was vocalist for One Star Story and now goes by the name of “Vanessa From Maine” on digital networks/streaming sites.… Continued →

Arthur Alligood Returns With a New Kickstarter Funded Album (Make it Happen Folks)

One of my favorite indie singer/songwriters, Arthur Alligood, returns with a kickstarter campaign to fund his upcoming new full length record. He is working with a couple Toad The Wet Sprocket members (as well as other guest musicians) on this album and it’ll be produced by Mikal Blue who has worked with groups/artists like Five For Fighting, One Republic, Jason Mraz, and Colbie Caillat among others. This highly anticipated new album needs support from fans and new fans alike. Arthur is a talented songwriter and I know this will be his biggest and best album to date.… Continued →

REVIEW : Roemer - Straight Bars and Guns

Roemer is a stripped-back acoustic/indie folk project. If you’re anything like me, folk has to be some really special to catch my attention—a quirky vocal style, effective use of harmonies, skilful playing, or best of all hard-hitting and/or poignant lyrics. If it has one or more of those, I’m more likely to pay attention. Straight Bars and Guns was written from an outsider looking in. Much like myself, Roemer is an American citizen living abroad. He in Berlin, me in the south of England. Being an American who doesn’t actually live in the United States gives one an interesting take—neither more nor less accurate, just different.… Continued →

Keith Settles - Four Years (New Song)

Keith Settles is a name you may not instantly recognize but in terms of IVM past history, the name contains significant weight. Jess started out the IVM interview series on YouTube way back in mid 00’s and then when Keith Settles came aboard to help out, he created some of the finest video interviews we had up until that point. In fact, those are the last video interviews conducted by IVM (see YouTube page). Keith was frontman for a group out of So. Cal. called The Parousia and as of the last couple of years he has gone solo with some teeth clenching, honest tunes with an ep titled “Stories To Tell” set to drop on May 15th independently.… Continued →

Sef Idle - A Place To Call Home (New Song)

I missed posting about this last week due to illness but I’m back and just had to tell you all about this amazing new track solo acoustic-punk songwriter, Sef Idle. Sharing a lot in common with songwriters like Chuck Ragan, Joey Cape, Tony Sly, Billie Joe Armstrong, Ted Bond, and Trever Keith but incorporating his own original flavor and style. The song “A Place To Call Home” is pure poetry in motion and a song with a story to share. Sef wears his punk badge proudly, straying not far from his roots in a scene that he spent years working through.… Continued →
