Some say power metal is dead in the USA but I am here to tell you it’s NOT!!! There is a Power Metal band hailing from southern New Jersey and that band is Faith Factor. After their EP “07/07/07” comes their best stuff yet under their new debut album, “AGAINST A DARKENED SKY”. Throughout the years some have stated that one power metal band is the same as another, but they would be forced to rethink their postion after listening to “AGAINST A DARKENED SKY”.

This is one solid album from the begining to the end!! Let me tell you a few things that stand out about the album… After the album’s intro it opens with ‘Keep it true” and wow! What a track it is! This pretty much has all you’d want from a Faith factor song – heavy riffage, a powerful melodic chorus, killer guitar work, vocals are outstanding, etc. Track 4 “In God`s Shadow” is my favorite song on this album. It’s in your face metal!! After the first 5 tracks, ‘In Remembrance” comes in, and wow, what a beautiful piece. This is great power ballad.

What impressed me the most about the album is there is no songs off the “07/07/07” ep on it..It`s 10 new origonal songs. This album contains well written songs, combined with great guitar work, that retains a tasteful quality to it…

Furthremore, I simply cannot review this album without stressing that the message of God is the basis of the music on this album!!! This is my pick for Best Album of 2008.

…fixed some things for you pal! :)

  2. It’s always funny how thrash metal albums have the worst cover art, haha. Interesting review though and even more interesting is how it’s your top album of ’08. Haven’t heard the House of Heroes album, have ya? :P

huh? That cover is killer!! As for the House of Heroes yes I have heard it not even in my top 20.. :p

  3. Michael, this isn’t thrash metal.

Best Album of 2008? Really? No seriously… really?

  4. Dale, welcome to the site! Dale will be covering the Christian metal realm, doing reviews, news, and such.

  5. Okay I took a listen on their myspace. Seems like that 5/5 is a bit high to me… There is hardly any album out there that deserves the max score. Although, we don’t have a standardized scoring system on this site (unfortunately). And I wouldn’t categorize this as power metal… more like heavy metal. There is definitely bands in this genre that appeal more to me. But my opinion is only based on what I heard on myspace so I could be majorly wrong.

  6. Fusse, it’s just one man’s opinion and that is all. It doesn’t mean that ALL of Indie Vision Music agrees with the score. It’s just a reviewer’s opinion. The score is kind of high though. ha. Standarized scoring is supposed to be 1-10 not 1-5.

Well said Brandon… as for the Standarized scoring is supposed to be 1-10 I can use that I guess…

Haha, maybe in the 80’s when all those hair metal album covers were the norm. Just look at WASP. :-P

As for the HoH remark, I’ll just pretend you didn’t say that.

  10. to get a 10/10 pretty much means that its one of the top couple albums of the year and that it has lasting value…there were only two albums last year that i’d give 10/10, tcc and ch183, i gave hoh a 9.5 as it was a bit long and had a couple weaker tracks…they could have cut it to 12 songs and it probably would have been better that way

this album cover looks so 80’s…ew.
