REVIEW : Show Review- Hot Topic Tour

Bands: The Devil Wears Prada, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, White Chapel, Gwen Stacy Location: The Canal Club Richmond, Virginia May 1, 2008 This isn’t my typical hardcore show. Usually I’m not one for metalcore and especially southern metalcore for that matter, but I had a blast at this show. So please forgive me that I don’t really know these bands songs or anything. Just pretend this review is from someone who has just discovered the hardcore scene. Anyways, Gwen Stacy was up first. They went right into a breakdown when they got on stage, which whipped the crowd into a frenzy.… Continued →

REVIEW : Standing Small - Oh Sweet Child

Artist: Standing Small Album: Oh Sweet Child Label: Future Destination Records Release Date: January 15, 2008 Review by: Eric Pettersson Tracklist: 1. I Need You 2. Strings 3. Oh To Know 4. I’m Coming Back 5. Grace through Iniquity 6. When You’re Lost Standing Small are what I would categorize as “The impressive opening act.”  You know the type. You went to see the headliner or maybe one of the bands in between, but after this smaller unheard-of band played the first set, you were rushing back to the merch table to pick up a CD (or at least trying to remember their name so you can become friends on myspace).… Continued →

REVIEW : Burning Tree Project - Time and Color EP

Artist: Burning Tree Project Album: Time and Color EP Label: Independent Buy: The Burning Tree Project Webstore Review by the Headless Horseman. 1. Dear Valentine 2. Hero 3. Hello 4. Free 5. Put Your Helmet On 6. Less of Me, More of You The best thing about reviewing CDs is that you can lie to people. Many reviewers seem to hit the ground running with this. I don’t mean so much that reviewers don’t accurately state their feelings about a CD. All of them, so far as I know, do that quite well.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Gasoline Heart

Interview with Gasoline Heart (4-16-08) As a 19-year-old, it was a little awkward walking into the Green Rock Tavern in Philly for a 21+ show asking for Gasoline Heart, but their manager Jimi met me pretty quickly since I was early enough to be the only one there not with the band. After Louis finished his sound checking, we walked outside to look for a place to do the interview while he had a “smokerette.” We chatted about the problems with liberal Bible colleges and my possibility of sneaking back inside to watch the show after our interview, which I was lucky enough to be able to do.Continued →

INTERVIEW : Mae

Mae interview March 20, 2008 By Eric Pettersson Upon arriving at The Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA, I met up with the band’s tour manager to be taken to the place of the interview. However, since I am under 21, I wasn’t allowed up to the backstage area where the venue allows alcohol because they obviously don’t want to get busted with me up there. So after a little shuffling around on stairs, Zach came down and we walked across the street to the Senorita Burrita.Continued →

REVIEW : For Today - "Ekklesia"

Band: For Today (http://myspace.com/fortoday) Album: Ekklesia Release date: April 1st, 2008 Label: Facedown Records (http://facedownrecords.com) Review by: DavidIVM I’ve already erased my opening line more times than you have fingers (I hope that’s the case, at least), because everyone knows that the opening line is where you “prove your stuff,” and this being my first review, I don’t want to fall on my face, but I know by the end of this, I’ll most likely end up with a bloody nose and a broken jaw. That’s all besides the point, because this CD, in my opinion, is a hard one to review.… Continued →

Artists: Brand New, Colour Revolt Venue: ATS Auditorium (Dickinson College), Carlisle, PA Date: March 29, 2008 Review by: Eric Pettersson “When you go on tour for so long, sometimes you just get kind of sick of it. And it’s funny how few bands we really like touring with, how few bands we actually like as friends and want to keep in touch with. INTERVIEW : Emery

Emery interview March 7, 2008 By Eric Pettersson APOLOGY: After showing up fifteen minutes late because of traffic on the expressway, I was quickly escorted to Emery’s dressing room at The Trocadero Theater in Philly to find Josh waiting for me. We moved through what at the time seemed like a great interview while my budding photographer friend Reuben toyed around with his fancy new remote flash taking pictures (to see the rest of his photos from the show that night, check out his MySpace here in the near future) and then Josh was off for sound check while we were off for Chinese food.Continued →

I mention Reuben because the pictures you will soon see are his.… Continued →

REVIEW : Lanae' Hale - Lanae' Hale EP

Artist: Lanae’ Hale Album: Lanae’ Hale EP Label: Centricity Records Release Date: November 6, 2007 Review by: Eric Pettersson Tracklist: 1. Spring Again 2. Alive Again 3. Love Is Worth the Fight 4. Stay 5. Start Over 6. Quiet Place On listening to this EP, a few thoughts come to mind. One, Lanae’s sound is not as indie as her influences listed on MySpace would leave one to believe. Two, this is not a bad thing, because she’s got a great sound. “Alive Again” could easily end up playing on a new episode of Scrubs with its soft, artistically poppy feel.… Continued →
