HEAVY METAL, Dudes! Despite popular opinions and clearly showing my lack of “scene cred”, I instantly connected with The Showdown “Temptation Come My Way” album back in 2007/2008 and haven’t changed my opinion since. David’s grit-filled voice is front and center just the way a good heavy metal band should be on the song, “We Die Young”. Well produced and placed instrumentation, with soaring vocal harmonies that really take this album completely over the top. It’s like that perfect combo of 80’s hard rock meets metal and 90’s era Metallica (Black album), solos and everything. Showing off it’s slick, commercial sheen, the album disconnected it’s loyal fanbase into two camps – the true fans and the fair-weather ones who reject all forms of commercial sounding music. It’s like what would happen if Metallica met up with Avenged Sevenfold, Eighteen Visions, Atreyu, Powerman 5000, even some Scorpions and Demon Hunter, to make the most epic combo of music ever created (throws up the horns!). This song was that perfect soaring metal ballad with just enough umppff to give it that global, worldwide appeal, and take the band in new directions. “Carry on My Wayward Son” was a near perfect ballad and a cover I still love to this day. Check out some other great tracks from this album including “Fanatics and Whores”, “Head Down”, “Spitting in the Wind”, “Death Finds Us Breathing” among all the other now – “Classics”. METAL4LYFE!!! Long Live The Showdown!
Interestingly enough, this band started as a punk band in their early days as 2540. I booked their first out of town gig when I was a graduate student in Tennessee.
Unpopular opinion: This is EASILY their best album.
Yes! Totally
