Pipe Bomb Releases Mind Bending, Explosive Debut EP "Stomp"

Chaotic, and heavy, this one man project known as “Pipe Bomb”, just dropped the explosive (no pun intended) debut many of us have been waiting for. The 6 song ep titled “Stomp” is out now on all digital networks and streaming sites. It’s tough to describe this project and it’s one of those things you just have to listen to and draw your own conclusions. It can’t be summarized into a nifty little “review” that as they are, can be quite subjective. This is heavy and chaotic and if you listen, any traits of a typical “one man band” kind of sentiment will wear off quite quick.… Continued →

Lightworker Shows Us All How Heavy and Melodic Can Intertwine With Expertise

Lightworker return with their first new song in several years. The song is titled “First Light” and it’ll be appearing on the band’s new album “How The Beautiful Decay” which is out April 19th on Solid State Records. Imagine a Howard Jones led Killswitch Engage crossing paths with For Today, Phinehas, and Bleeding Through but even more spectacular. This band shows real promise and potential and I can’t wait to hear what album number 2 sounds like. Check out the music video for the song right here at IVM, below.… Continued →

Best of 2023: Rob Jensen

1. Lacey Sturm – Kenotic Metanoia: This November Lacey Sturm released her first album in nearly 8 years. To say it was worth the wait is an understatement. If it’s going to take 8 years to release a new album, this is the caliber release you want to shoot for. Lacey sounds as good as ever and has dropped an exceptional album here. It easily outshines her previous release, Life Screams, and is, in my opinion, her best work to date, including her material with Flyleaf.… Continued →

Introducing Spiritwalker (mini album review included)

Wage War. DTGL-era Underoath. Confide. These are but a few of the names that readily spring to mind when I listen to Spiritwalker’s debut release, “Heretic”, which dropped this past July. The independent release is extremely well written and well produced, easily standing shoulder to shoulder with other well-known bands of the genre that have been at it for years. The project, based out of Asheville, NC, is the sole effort of one man, Brandon Marlowe.   The album is unashamedly direct about matters of faith, touching largely on where our hope and purpose lies, expressing the frivolity of seeking such things here and focusing our gaze to God, where we’re found in the fulness of all these things.… Continued →

Wolves At The Gate "Lost In Translation" Out Now!

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this new Wolves At The Gate covers album titled “Lost In Translation” but I sure do. It’s really done with the best production and sound you can get. Their take on many of these classic songs is nothing short of extraordinary. I’d go as far to say that some of these songs have been reinvented with a new fervor courtesy of Wolves At The Gate. I was expecting the Jimmy Eat World cover for “Sweetness” to pale in comparison to the real thing but surprisingly it’s the complete opposite and same goes for “The Pretender”, “Pardon Me”, “Heathens”, and “Breaking the Habit”.… Continued →
