Corey Steger, a founding member of the band Underoath who played on the band’s very early albums, has tragically lost his life in a car accident. He was a husband and father to two young children. Beloved indie rock/post-hardcore band, DENS, return with a completely new and reworked version of their 2020 album titled “Tamed Tongues”. The album will featured all reworked versions of the songs found on “Taming Tongues” but incorporating a more toned down, acoustic, Americana like vibe. One of my favorite long running emo/indie/post-hardcore bands, Names Without Numbers, will return VERY soon with a brand new song titled “Empire on Fire”. All I can tell you is that this is a powerful and heavy track, perfect for long drives and weight lifting sessions. This is one of the best songs the band has ever written. It’s always a pleasure to find a new band to listen to and many times I find myself wondering how I’m only now hearing about them, especially when they sound so good.   Windvent is a progressive post-hardcore band from Chihuahua, Mexico. They have a very heavy, yet melodic sound. The guitarwork is incredible and the vocals range from sounding like Mouth of the South to Lifelong, and also feature some really great sounding cleans. Excellent lyrics! The band released a few singles in the past year or two and have a full length release, “Relief” that dropped in 2018.… Continued →

When listening to music, do you ever get the feeling you’re hearing something deeply personal, and you’re not really sure if you should be listening in? Of course, recorded music is made to be heard. It’s marketed for consumption. But there are some songs that just seem so intimate it’s like you’re accidentally listening to a private conversation. “Days End” from Brandtson’s debut strikes me that way. I was equally excited and perplexed when I first heard about this new band (in the late 90s). Six Feet Deep had been a staple in the Spirit-filled hardcore scene–passionate and preachy as that genre was known for, when the members changed the band name and style, replaced by the new “emo” tag (at the time, anyway).… Continued →

Beloved (US) released this absolutely flawless cover of U2’s classic song, “Like a Song”, last month. It is without a doubt, one of my favorite cover songs by an artist we write about and quite simply one of the best songs of 2020. To be honest, I wasn’t as familiar with this U2 song as much as their other more famous tracks but nonetheless the band put their own unique spin on it and blew it out of the water. It’s not only lyrically poignant but the sound quality of this one song is on par with anything a major label artist would release in 2020.… Continued →

Shane, why must you create such fresh, relevant, heart wrenching new music? This song literally grabs you by the throat and well, releases a flood of all the best emotions. In reality, this song does anything but “Choke” you but it does grip you with a collection of notes and music performed by a talented ensemble of well seasoned musicians.
