Song of the Day: Metanoia - Dimensions of Life

By in Song of The Day | No Comments

Australian band Metanoia (not to be confused with the punk band from Chile) was active from about 1994 to 1999. In that short span of time, they made quite an impact on the Christian metal scene. They played traditional death metal, but as has been pointed out by Scott Waters at nolifetilmetal.com, they also infused melodic and groovy parts from time to time, especially on their earlier material.

The band recorded a couple of demos, and was also included on a number of compilations, many of which featured Australian bands exclusively. Metanoia released three full-length albums, and unlike many heavy bands, which get more commercial over time, Metanoia actually got heavier with each release. 1995’s In Darkness or in Light is probably the most difficult to acquire these days. 1998 saw the band release Don’t Walk Dead and 1999 saw Time to Die. Each of the albums was released through Rowe Productions, under the guidance of mentor Steve Rowe (of Mortification). The band broke up shortly after the release of the third album.

“Dimensions of Life” comes from the debut album, but was also featured on Hard and Heavy from Down Under, a compilation of Australian bands co-released through Rugged Records. It is this compilation from which I first discovered the tune. I hope you enjoy it.
