Australian band Metanoia (not to be confused with the punk band from Chile) was active from about 1994 to 1999. In that short span of time, they made quite an impact on the Christian metal scene. They played traditional death metal, but as has been pointed out by Scott Waters at nolifetilmetal.com, they also infused melodic and groovy parts from time to time, especially on their earlier material. I used to have this one on cassette tape back in the day. Red Sea was a hard rock/bluesy band that included Die Happy’s vocalist & Fear Not’s guitarist. It was released on Rugged Records which also featured artists such as Reflescent Tide & Disciple. I remember 3 singles from this one & this SOTD was the first. One of Christian metal’s most prominent acts during the genre’s Golden Period (roughly 1986-1992), Barren Cross rocked a traditional heavy metal sound, managing to stay both heavy and melodic without ever succumbing to glam on the one hand, or thrash on the other. The band released 4 full-length studio albums, a live album and a handful of singles & EPs before calling it quits in the mid-90s. A pair of compilations appeared in 2007 and 2014, respectively. There was a swing revival for a brief time in the late 90s. The W’s were probably the most well known, but there was also Denver & the Mile High Orchestra & One Eighty. Disciple is a mainstay in modern rock. They have been around since 1992 & even did some arena rock before they went to blues & rapcore & settling on hard rock.
