As IVM readers have come to expect over the years, we cover a wide array of styles and genres for the Song of the Day feature. It’s part nostalgia, part new discovery, and part unearthing treasures from the past. I think this is probably the first time we’ve covered a disco artist at IVM, and while there is no obvious (or even indirect) connection to indie rock here, part of the point is to show that faith-based artists have always been involved in contemporary music across the decades, despite what the popular narrative might tell us.
German vocalist and songwriter Heike Tittmann was a disco/pop/funk artist. She released one album in 1979, Wie Ein Baum Will Ich Sein . . . through the German label Lord Records. A single from the album was issued (re-issued?) in 2021 on Miss You Records, specializing in retro sounds from the 1970s.
Heike went on to record as part of Aufwind, Second Face, Pieces, and perhaps the most well-known Shell and the Ocean. She also recorded under a variety of individual names included Heike Barth, Cyra, and Shee.
“Only You” is a 6-minute mid-paced romp aimed straight for the dance floor, but with lyrics about God’s love.
