ActionReaction "3 Is the Magic Number"

Artist: ActionReaction Album: 3 Is the Magic Number Label: Hope Division/ Equal Vision Records Review by: Eric When singer Jason Gleason suddenly left Further Seems Forever a few years ago, fans were crushed, and I know that I thought I would never hear his voice again outside of the How to Start a Fire album. Then, about a year ago, I caught word of a new band, ActionReaction, which featured Jason Gleason on vocals. I was ecstatic as I clicked the link to listen to the first download, “Bang, Bang.”… Continued →

Spacepilot "Grab Your Coats"

Artist: Spacepilot Album: Grab Your Coats Label: None (released independently) Review by: Eric Forgotten Arrival was one of the bands on the old Indie Vision Music label, and when they broke up after the label ended, Andrew Coughlan and Randy Felten decided to continue making music together, but it was going to be different this time. While Forgotten Arrival was had more of basic alternative/ emo rock feel, their new effort, Spacepilot explores the experimental side of indie rock, but without getting so experimental that they would turn off listeners.… Continued →

Festival Review: Purple Door 2006

Purple Door 2006 Festival Review 10:41, Sunday night. This is the first I have been home since Friday morning. The reason? I was at a music fest in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania known at Purple Door. Well, today I just went straight to church and then some other stuff, but still… I have been to Purple Door. I have seen new bands, I have seen stages torn down, and I have met Joel and Cory. And while I have told a number of you that this review would be short and to the point, as I sit here now to write, I realize that that was a horrible idea, and less people may read this for it’s being so long, but those who do read it will enjoy it more as I give you more details.… Continued →

Bernard - A View Beyond a Cave

Band: Bernard Album: A View Beyond a Cave Label: Floodgate Records Review by: JoshIndieVision www.myspace.com/bernard Floodgate strikes gold again! First they bring us The Myriad, who’s 2005 release “You Can’t Trust A Ladder”, blew me away and now comes Bernard. I had heard about these guys when they had released their independent album “Trust? Yes? Are You Still Here in Darkest of Holes?” but really didn’t get into it as much as I probably should have. The one thing that album showed was what this band could be, given a better recording and time.… Continued →

Watson Park "Self Titled"

Album: WatsonPark Artist: WatsonPark Label: Unsigned I have to say it: I have a soft spot for some good folk-pop. I really do. I’m a pretty massive fan of the “nu-folk” movement which was revived in the late 90s and has carried over to today. Whiskeytown, early Wilco, Norah Jones, Damien Rice…I’m a sucker for all of them. The “singer/songwriter” set. Good stuff. It’s a little hard to peg down sometimes. It’s not pop enough to be called “pop”, but there’s nothing really too “folk” (and especially nothing “country”) about it.… Continued →

Forever Changed "Chapters"

Artist: Forever Changed Album: Chapters Label: Floodgate Records “Forever Changed is breaking up.” This announcement a few months ago left some stunned. A young, eager, and talented alternative rock band just starting to make a name for themselves decided to call it quits because their singer decided to leave in order to focus on his family more. This is not an uncommon story in the music scene (which is a good thing to see musicians being responsible about their family lives). Forever Changed decided to release one last CD before leaving this band behind, and this is how Chapters eventually landed into my hands.… Continued →
