REVIEW : Cruentis - Alpha and Omega

This 5-song EP contains 3 songs of melodic death metal (tracks 2-4) sandwiched in between 2 longer, unusual songs that genre-wise feature a hybrid of nu metal, doom metal and some classical instrumentation. Stylistically, the middle 3 tracks are similar to bands like Pantokrator, World to Ashes and similar melodeath bands (or In Flames and At the Gates from a mainstream perspective), but there is not a huge emphasis on the lead guitar. These are the strongest tracks with the most cohesive sound. The first and last tracks are more original, but ironically also weaker.… Continued →

REVIEW : Relent - Heart Attack

Sometime last year, Brandon was kind enough to introduce me to a band named Relent. At the time, the band only had a 2 song ep available called “Embers”, but it was more than enough to pique my interest. What we have in these guys is a what I’m going to call a new nu metal sound. Normally, when I’m putting together a review, I like to make comparisons to other bands to help give an idea of what to expect sound-wise, but here that’s a little difficult.… Continued →

Introducing: Relent

I am proud to introduce a new hard rock band to all of you by the name of RELENT. These guys are just starting out in San Antonio, TX. but they have a very professional, polished sound and yet are still independent. They have a powerful message and a strong spiritual center, sharing the truth of Jesus with a hurting world. Their sound is sort of a mix of Korn, Spoken, Papa Roach, Disturbed, and RED. You can purchase the band’s debut two singles “Rise” and “Surrendered” right here via iTunes.… Continued →

Love & Death recording for New Album

Love & Death, the nu-metal band, have finally started working on new music. And just as I discovered that J.R. Bareis has left Islander, alongside the other two non-original members of Islander, they have begun guitar tracking with ex-Red, current Breaking Benjamin guitarist Jasen Rauch. The band currently consists of Brian Welch on vocals, J.R. on guitars and Dan Johnson on drums. Bassist Michael Valentine departed last year, without any official reason. Bareis and Rauch have begun recording guitars for the album.

Manafest and Famous Last Words announce new Tour

The hard rock rapper Manafest and the post-hardcore/metalcore band Famous Last Words have announced they are going on a East Coast tour together. The two are very different style wise: Manafest started as just a rapper, with a nu-metal tinge, and seems to be returning to his roots with his new single “Stones”. Famous Last Words on the other hand, are a post-hardcore/metalcore band that sounds like Blessthefall in a sense. Anyways this will be an interesting tour one way or another.

5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (80's/90's Version)

Today, I am posting a list of Christian Metal bands from the old days that aren’t mentioned very often when talking about Christian metal. Most of them tend to be Nu-metal, ironically, even though the 90’s was the time for Nu-Metal/Rapcore. 5. Oficina G3 Oficina G3 is a Christian prog metal act from the late 80’s. Forming in 1987, the band began as a heavy metal/hard rock band, influenced by Stryper and Petra, but progressed into a Progressive metal/nu-metal/metalcore-ish band. This band was most likely thrown out, due to this period, when the Christian thrash scene had just hit it’s stride, with the Big 4 of the Christian scene: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Tourniquet and Believer.… Continued →

The album was released by Victory Records back on August 5th (stream on spotify below) and this is a video for the track “Bad Buy” off the album. Enjoy! Continued →

Mayfly - Vereor Deus, Non Dogma

IVM and Voluminous Records partner together to stream Mayfly's upcoming EP "Vereor Deus, Non Dogma". This stream will only stay open for about a week, so be sure to check it out now.

REVIEW : Mayfly - Vereor Deus, Non Dogma

Progressive ("recycled") Nu-metal act Mayfly will release their new EP "Vereor Deus, Non Dogma" next week through Voluminous Records. With a sound that blends the Deftones and Staple with some more modern touches, this is a band that is set to stand out by default in a sea of "more of the same" heavy music.
