One of the elders of the Christian indie scene, John J. Thompson, has written a new book. Ballad of the Lost Dogs of East Nashville will be the third title from the author, and his first as a novel. Thompson had this to say about the book:
This story is about how music brings a diverse community of characters together – after some profound personal and community tragedies – to accomplish something miraculous when they least expect it. It’s based upon people I have known and pieces of stories I have heard, and is set right here in the community I have called home for over 17 years.… Continued →

L.S. Underground masterpiece "The Grape Prophet" to be re-issued!
L.S. Underground (AKA LSU, L.S.U. LifeSavers Underground, Lifesavers, Lifesavors) have been doing alternative music in various forms since the early 80s. “The Grape Prophet,” originally released on Blonde Vinyl in 1992 was a concept album full of nuance and metaphor representing a young man’s journey looking into what was deemed a potentially dangerous Christian cult. Dark and brooding, the album has often been hailed as the band’s magnum opus. The original release is tremendously difficult to obtain, in large part because a vast shipment of units got somehow lost in transit.… Continued →

That’s right friends, the much loved and critically adored long running legends of a band – MxPx, are back and with a new album. They are here to prove that 26 years later it isn’t the end but rather a step in the next phase of this band’s legendary career. It’s hard to believe that seeing them in some sweaty Church basement here in Orange County, CA. back in 1995 with all of us (band included) being youths, that their music would endure through the years attracting new fans each step of the way.… Continued →

Scott Brownson Kickstarter
Scott Brownson, worship leader and former singer of Pivitplex, is working on a new album inspired by summer camp and for the next 11 days you can help him out by donating through Kickstarter.
This project has been years in the making. It came from my life changing experiences on the mountain tops in Montana. The experiences that inspired me to begin writing songs 20 years ago. Those songs took me around the country and overseas playing for thousands of incredible people, but they were all rooted in what it felt like to be in the majestic beauty and unbelievable camaraderie of camp.… Continued →

Campaign Alert: Altar Boys / Broken Reunion 2005 DVD Release
Mike Stand and Steve Pannier of Altar Boys did a little facebook talk that included question/answer time and some classic songs done acoustic. This is all for the Kickstarter campaign to fund the DVD release of the 2005 Broken Reunion Show. It has been 30 years since the release of the band’s defining album “Gut Level Music” and next year will be the 30th for “Against the Grain”. REVIEW : Gayle Skidmore - Sleeping Bear
As I am sure you know, art can be expressed in many different forms. Artists can be defined as musicians, actors, painters, baristas, costume designers, carpenters, beat poets, and many more titles. In theatre, there are certain talented actors that can be identified as “Triple Threats” (possessing the skills of singing, acting and dancing). While singer-songwriters are quite common in the music industry, Gayle Skidmore can be identified as far more than that.
