Then It Ends Drop New Song/Video, "Reality"

New Metalcore band, Then It Ends (feat. members of A Past Unknown and Dividing the Masses) have released a new song and a video to go with it for the song “Reality”. Much more melodic than the recently released single, “Depravity”, “Reality” contains great lyrics and heavy moments that contrast the laid back feel heard for most of the track in perfect proportion. “Reality” makes for a great listen for fans of a variety of tastes in music. Check out the video below and let us know if you agree.… Continued →

John Cooper (Skillet) Has A Book On The Way, "Awake And Alive To Truth"

John Cooper has written a book that is due out this December called “Awake and Alive to Truth”. John has been on fire on his podcast, “Cooper Stuff” which I highly recommend checking out. From his page, he’s said of the book, “How do you know what’s true when there are so many differing voices telling us what to do? AWAKE & ALIVE TO TRUTH tackles the reigning philosophies of our day and points you to an eternal truth that is unshakeable.” Pre-order HERE.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Blaster the Rocket Man - Hopeful Monsters Are Dying Every Day

Film director Guillermo del Toro and spastic hardcore punk band Blaster the Rocket Man have at least one thing in common. Whereas most of society, and particularly within Christianity, monsters are usually the bad guys, these two artistic entities–operating in disparate fields as the case may be–often take the side of the monster. Pan’s Labyrinth, for instance, juxtaposes the kind but terrifying Pan against the inhuman, yet human, monsters of the Spanish fascists under Francisco Franco. Blaster the Rocket Man uses traditional monster and sci-fi imagery, all the while connecting these images to faith in Christ.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Benjamin Daniel - Good God

“It’s waking up into a bad dream with a good God.” Something about this line is irresistibly compelling to me. Maybe it’s the literal nightmares I’ve been having lately. Maybe it’s the chaos of the current election cycle where any and every event is blown out of proportion or warped to dehumanize the “other”. Riots. Cancel culture. Evil branded as good. It is frankly disorienting, scary, dare I say nightmarish. It is easy to forget God’s goodness in the midst of this. It is easy to overlook that when we need Him most is when we experience the most grace.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Andy Squyres - What Nobody Should Know

If you like John Mark McMillan or John Van Deusen, the honestly and careful wordplay of Andy Squyres will surely feel familiar. Today is the Lord’s day and we are called to rest in Him, but our fallen, chaotic world burdens us and keeps us from this rest. The demands of society, the responsibilities of leading a family, the questions of what life will look like after college, how the election might play, global politics… Much like the psalms, Squyres reminds us that worship are genuine self-reflection are inseparable.… Continued →

Song of the Day: theLionhearted - Lover of the Light

The latest track by theLionhearted begins reminiscent of old From Indian Lakes with even hints of Emery; by the end, it is a tremelo-picked whirlwind of pounding drums and backing gang vocals that feels a bit like what we saw from Attalus. If you know me, I’m a sucker for tracks with huge endings and this fits nicely in the realm of modern indie and post-hardcore. The artwork arguably does not do this track justice – it’s a heartfelt lament and admiration of faith paired with some impressive songwriting.… Continued →

Opinion: Merch is Boring. But It Doesn't Have To Be

For seasons in my life, I’ve found myself as a professional designer. But even outside of that, I’ve been pursuing hobbies in video and photography for some years. In high school, I did pixel art for a few games (which never launched, RIP). Suffice to say, even if I’m not the best at composition, I spend a lot of time with it. I’ve spent hours getting websites laid out properly and edited videos late into the night. I’ve seen things, many of them even. So, band merch is weird to me.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Prayer Chain - Fifty-Eight

I had this song on my mind the other day as I was thinking about what song I was going to choose for this week. The modus operandi: Ruminate on a song and make a choice. Find it on YouTube. Listen while I’m writing. Dang. I’ve loved this song for years, but was still surprised at how good it sounded more than 2 decades after it was recorded. I highly recommend headphones! This song has so many layers. So many things that make it great. It’s difficult to know where to begin.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Sam Ule - Paint

Sam Ule (the moniker of Samuel Schmidt) is in an Indiana-based songwriter fresh off the press with his debut single. “Paint” glistens piano-pop sensibility, the kind of song that feels theatrical and upbeat. Sam Ule draws comparisons to Jason Mraz and Jon Bellion, making use of careful electro-acoustic arrangements that are warm and captivating. More music is on the way shortly. Check out Sam Ule on Instagram for updates.

Then It Ends Drop New Video, "Depravity"

Then It Ends (featuring members of A Past Unknown and Dividing The Masses) have dropped their first video for the song, “Depravity”. The song will be featured on the band’s debut album, “Restored”, out October 2nd on Flourish Records. This track hits hard, has great lyrics, and is sure to be an instant favorite for fans of metalcore. Don’t sleep on these guys! Check out the video below and drop a comment.… Continued →

Fit For A King Virtual Release Show, Thurs 9/10

Fit For A King has recorded a live set at the Masquerade in Atlanta, GA that they say is essentially the same set they would have been performing live had current events made touring impossible. The set will streamed free on Twitch Thursday, 9/10 and will be a release show of sorts for the new album, “The Path”, due out a week from Friday. Throughout the show there will be contests, giveaways, as well as a new merch line for sale and the whole thing will be followed by a live Q&A with the band.… Continued →

Opinion: Deconstructionism Is Passé

Disclaimer: Opinions are my own and do not reflect all of the IVM staff. Orthodoxy isn’t cool, and non-Christians make better music than Christians. Now, I don’t seriously believe this – but it may as well be the mission statement underlying most formerly-professing-Christian artists. David Bazan seems to deftly annihilate the creation account in a single verse. Derek Webb parodies the liturgical experience with a song about alcohol. Bands like Animal Flag seem to dismantle the character of God. Motherfolk said next to nothing on their spiritual changes before writing an album that simply states there is no God.… Continued →

Wolves At The Gate Return With New EP

In what seems to be a surprise announcement, Wolves At The Gate just let all their fans know that they are releasing an EP titled “DAWN” that will be released on October 8th through Solid State Records. It appears to be a remix release with possible new versions of some of their classics? Anyone have more info? Check out the first song, “Voice In The Violence (Redux)” below and on all digital platforms. What do you think?… Continued →

Song of the Day: Jetenderpaul - Don't Look Down

Lo-fi indie rockers, hailing from Kansas, Jetenderpaul were delightfully weird. They simultaneously embodied the avant-garde and pop music, writing short, melodious ditties that would never be on radio even though they should be. I was a huge fan of Velvet Blue Music in the 90s and picked up this EP on a whim, and I wasn’t disappointed. Although there really was nothing else like it in the Christian scene, the band’s work often appeals to fans of material from Danielson Famile and Havalina Rail Co. to Soul-Junk and Pony Express.… Continued →

REVIEW : The Oh Hellos - Boreas

Boreas is far from a gentle, stereotypical winter-themed release. It has been tested by negative-degree temperatures. It has been refined in a viking furnace. It sees the Heaths adorned in makeshift bear pelt armor ready for battle. The Oh Hellos may have been in hibernation, but they've woken up roaring.
