Song of the Day: The Blamed - 1200 Stares

By the time Give us Barrabbas came out (the band’s 7th album), The Blamed had already gone through at least 4 different genres: punk rock, crossover thrash, hardcore punk, and punk metal. Now they were dabbling in experimental post-hardcore, which, for my money was their most successful rendering of noise to date. “1200 Stares” starts off with a punishing, repetitive riff, and then we welcome some gang shouts: “We won’t stop what we start!” There’s an urgency in the cry that beseeches one to pay attention.… Continued →

New Video From Seventh Day Slumber: "Man Down"

Seventh Day Slumber dropped their newest album, “Closer To Chaos” in 2019 and the album was chock full of hard rock tunes. One of which was “Man Down”, a song that addresses PTSD, something many men and women who served in our armed forces deal with as a result of the sacrifice they made defending our nation and freedoms. Check out the new video for this song below and let us know what you think.… Continued →

REVIEW : Chase Tremaine - Unfall

To brush my bangs to the side, or not to, that is the question. For some, emo means The Jazz June, but for others, it means Hawthorne Heights … ad infinitum. While emo is a genre that is difficult to define, I would say that Chase Tremaine combines emo, indie, and pop—think Mae or Number One Gun. Unfall begins with “Matter,” which makes a good first impression with its wonderful guitar and a chorus that immediately gets stuck in your head. Throughout, Tremaine demonstrates his ability to structure songs, as made evident by “Humanizer” and “Unfallinlovewithable,” though I felt like certain tracks (e.g.,… Continued →

Then It Ends - Addiction (NEW SONG)

When former frontman of A Past Unknown promises muisc from his solo project, Grant Lilly delivers! Today, the project, Then It Ends, dropped its second single, “Addicition”. When asked about Then It Ends and this new single, Grant had this to say: “God has inspired me to continue music. I absolutely love metalcore but I do love so many other genres as well. This song is about giving up addictions. All of us in one way or another have addictions whether we realize it or not and need Christ to take them out of our lives.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Writz - Night Nurse

Another great example of early Christian punk/post-punk/new wave from the UK is Writz. They released one album in 1979 that would rival anything from the early CBGB’s scene, or even the stuff coming out of London or Manchester at the time. The band would later morph into the alter-egos of Techno Twins, The Techno Orchestra and the Technos, all of which pursued a sophisticated synth-pop sound. For my money though, Writz is where it’s at. Check out “Night Nurse” here. The song can often be found on 7″ for a reasonable price via online sales venues.… Continued →

REVIEW : Huntingtons - Muerto, Carcel o Rocanroll

Huntingtons are back with their first new album of recorded material in 17 years—their 8th full-length overall. This time around the band comprises Mike Holt (vocals/bass) Jonathan “Cliffy” Walker (guitars/vocals) Josh Blackway (guitars/vocals) and Chris Eller (drums). While the band has been known for its admiration for the Ramones, the first thing that struck me about Muerto, Carcel o Rocanroll is how much less obvious their worship for the leather-clad New Yorkers is this time. There are a few nods to them, most notably on ‘You Don’t Have to Go,’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Die Alone’ (which reminds me a bit of ‘Poison Heart’ from Mondo Bizarro), but there’s clearly been some development of their sound in their 17-year hiatus.… Continued →

Switchfoot Joins Nickelback and Stone Temple Pilots on Tour This Summer

This is no joke. A personal fave of mine, a band we call Switchfoot is joining up with world renown Canadian rock band Nickelback and California based grunge-alt-rock band, Stone Temple Pilots (STP) for a run of dates this summer/fall. This might just an epic rock extravaganza or How You Remind Me of a cringe worthy PHOTOGRAPH? Either way, there is a little something for everyone and a true rock n’ roll fan to enjoy. I’ve heard the new vocalist of STP is one of the best.… Continued →

Song of The Day: Unashamed - Everlasting Father

I was listening to this Unashamed song the other day through one of those Daily Mix Spotify Playlists that they so graciously create for me each day and I was brought back to a different time in my youth. So much anger, rage, and hope all in one song. It’s amazing to think that an artist can channel such aggression while at the same time harnessing a profound sense of love and hope derived from a Faith in God that is bigger than oneself. “Everlasting Father” appeared on the band’s 2nd full length release, “Reflection”, released in 1996 on Tooth & Nail Records.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Innocence Mission - Lakes of Canada

If you asked me to name the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard, there would be a lot of contenders, but this one would certainly be up there. Haunting melodies (courtesy of Karen Peris), cryptic lyrics that hint at familial pain of some sort, topped off with Don Peris’s intricate acoustic guitar work and some incredible harmonies as well. It’s hard not to be moved by music this gorgeous. Check out the original version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izewuu3rX8k The band reworked the song last year.
