Nate Parrish to Release New Single "God Knows" (Feat. David Bunton of The Showdown)

I bet you didn’t see that coming did you? Yes sir (or ma’am or whatever), Nate Parrish is BACK and with a vengeance, a most righteous, glorified vengeance of the melodic punk rock n’ roll variety. He is releasing his first new single of 2022 titled “God Knows” which features David Bunton of the great band – The Showdown (Get Snake Bit) lending his vocal talents. You might not know this but David also was a melodic punk band years ago before The Showdown so this pairing is absolutely perfect!… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Warning - Condemned to Hell

If you’ve been around the Christian punk/metal/hardcore/indie scene for any amount of time, you will likely have heard the name Burrito. Not his real name, of course–the man David Villalpando was a legend in the underground scene. Sadly, the man that many called a friend passed away this week from covid-related illness. For those who didn’t know him, it is difficult to overstate his impact on the scene. From a musical standpoint, while none of his projects ever achieved mainstream success or financial prosperity, they were always on the bleeding edge of innovation.… Continued →

25 Of My Favorite Albums From 1996

This is my 25th anniversary tribute to albums that released during the year of 1996 (and/or presumed to have released during this particular year). It was a monumental year in underground, indie music and one that was ignited by artists sharing a similar Christian Faith. While the rest of the world was consuming their Michael W Smith, or Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline, DC Talk, Amy Grant, Rebecca St. James, Jars of Clay, or even that guy who wrote the Butterfly Kisses song, we on the indie circuit side of things were rejoicing with a newfound optimism.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Mike Stand - Footsteps of Love

I don’t know why it took me so long, but recently a very simple thought has helped me out immensely in my spirituality and my walk with Christ. It’s simply this: choose love. That’s it. When I am tempted to sin, choose love instead. When I want to be selfish, choose love. When I want to do something that would only please or elevate myself and not others, choose love. Mike Stand was singing about it decades ago. And of course, the ultimate trump card here is Jesus himself.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Freeto Boat -10th and Woodsborough

Freeto Boat was an awesome punk rock band mixed with ska. Like my previous SOTD for Sick of Change, this one is also a love song. Today I’ll let the sun set, There’s no anger in my heart. Tonight just let the moon rise, Our time won’t be spent apart. Starlight and confessions Of what you mean to me, These twilight conversations they’re helping me to see… What you are in God’s eyes, what you are in mine not a hair too shy of perfect and always just in time.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Ghoti Hook - Ooklah The Punk

Ghoti Hook was a fun Virginian punk band that came out the same time Value Pac did from what I remember. My friend from high school & I had certain faves. I liked The Insyderz & he liked the O.C. Supertones while I liked Ghoti Hook & he liked Value Pac. I always liked this song of the day & thought of it as a good one for this primarily punk website.

Song of the Day: Subseven - Emotion

Subseven was a rock (some say emo/screamo) band from Oklahoma that signed with Flicker Records in 2003. The band would release “Subseven: The Ep” and the full length “Free to Conquer” before calling it a day in 2005. This Song of the Day, “Emotion”, hits hard and fast with a chorus sure to stay in your head all day. Don’t miss it!… Continued →

American Arson - Unbreakable (Redrawn)

American Arson have released a surprise redone version of one of their latest songs, “Unbreakable”. You can find the really great new version on your favorite digital network right now. I’m a big fan of bands that stretch out their wings and break the norm of what they’ve become known for. Wouldn’t a whole album like this sound great? Kind of like when My Epic released their best album, “Broken Voice”, a decade ago.… Continued →

Sef Idle Releases "Retrogradation" Punk Rock Ep

Sef Idle recently dropped a new EP called “Retrogradation” which is definitely a “Plugged In” punk rock collection of songs. There is a fair mix of previous acoustic jams from his past material amped up and explored in a more punk rock direction. This is a really great collection of songs. Take a listen to the 4 song ep below via Bandcamp, Spotify or I also included a youtube clip of “Bindsided” which is one of my favorites.… Continued →
