Song of the Day: Red - Ordinary World

I remember when this band first started, they were on a rock show hosted by Sonia Vannest. I found out about them & Evanescence on the  same show. We all know the directions that the bands took after. This SOTD is in hopes for more Red music. They have done a few covers but this is my fave from them as I loved this song as a kid when it was originally done by Duran Duran.    … Continued →

Best of Psalm 46

This summer my church is doing a sermon series on Psalm 46. It’s something we’ve been doing every summer for the last few years—picking a Psalm and reading through it every week. Naturally as a music lover I enjoy looking to see what artists have made a song based on the Psalm that we’re studying. This year I might have gone a little overboard though. Do you know how many songs titled “Psalm 46” there on Spotify? Yeah, neither do I. As it turns out Spotify’s search function stops at 1,000 songs.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Circle of Birds - Circle of Birds

I haven’t yet featured any post-rock on the Song of the Day series, so it’s time to remedy that. Circle of Birds was a one-off collaboration between members of Ester Drang, Unwed Sailor and Lasso. The vast ensemble (encompassing nine members!) allowed for a true spirit of improvisation. The resulting 3-song EP is entirely instrumental, but it’s a very satisfying listen. Characteristic for the genre, 2 of the 3 songs clock in at over 7 minutes long. Check out the title track here.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Spoken - This Path vs Through It All

This one goes out to one of my fave bands of all time. Matt Baird is a man ov God. I literally just saw them live yet again 2 days ago & bought some merch off his oldest son! Anyways their LP Echoes is still in my top 20 albums of all time. The other SOTD showcases the cleaner production sound that they became known for. They are still releasing new music so BOLO for new stuff that they played. Continued →

Song of the Day: Jyradelix - Out for Love

For a brief moment in the early 1990s, it looked like electronica (or techno, or rave as it was being called at the time) was going to take over popular music. It had a huge following in Christian alternative music for a good two years. Although the synthesizer-driven genre had little to do with the guitar-dominated alt-rock, grunge, and hardcore punk of the era, what it did have in common with those genres was simply being an oddball style of music with which to glorify God.… Continued →

Empty Atlas also dropped a new song on last Friday titled “Half Magic”. This rising star in the realm of indie music is fast becoming one of my favorite bands. Please make sure you give them a fair listen and check out their other recent tracks while you’re at it. I know soon that you’ll be in agreement with me on the fact that this is a highly talented and super enjoyable band.… Continued →

Anberlin Announce New EP + New Song

I missed posting about this over the long Fourth of July weekend. Was busy with family and health issues. Anyway, one of my personal favorite Rock bands are back in action. Anberlin have announced their signing to Equal Vision (as reported earlier) and just dropped their new single “Circles”. While different, this song invokes a certain familiarity and instant likability. If you are a longtime fan then I’m sure many of you will appreciate the new direction. I am just hoping for some sounds akin to their earlier material so we shall see.… Continued →

Gametime - J.A.R. (Green Day Cover)

Melodic punk band – Gametime, just dropped another NEW song and this time it’s a really cool cover of the Green Day b-side “J.A.R (Jason Andrew Relva)” which originally appeared on the “Angus” movie soundtrack back in 1995. It was one of their best B-sides and has since been re-released on the Green Day “International Superhits” album. Don’t be like other people and decide to jump ship to another country, give this solid melodic punk cover a listen today!… Continued →

Song of the Day: Deliverance - No Love

Metalheads are divided over whether the subgenre dubbed “speed metal” actually exists or not. Often confused with shred metal and/or Neo-classical (yes, those guys play fast, but that’s not the same thing), it’s almost synonymous with thrash except there are often clean vocals and/or slightly cleaner guitars. In the Christian scene, the most obvious examples are the seminal and fantastic Valor, Tourniquet’s early work (also adding a progressive element) and the mighty Deliverance. While Deliverance has flirted with a lot of different styles (speed/thrash, gothic metal, alternative metal, groove, etc.),… Continued →

Song of the Day: Slick Shoes - Fulfilling

This band is cool. I remember seeing them back in the day & I was impressed. I’d consider them pop punk & they were one of the early T&N bands that I had collected. Chose this one as I always understood the lyrics. The life’s torn from you, there is nowhere to turn. You’re all alone, you feel hollow and empty. Nothing you do can suppress the heartache that you feel. The only strength you have is used to cry in misery. Could you fill the hole you’ve made inside your heart, when you can’t erase your past mistakes?… Continued →

P.O.D. Are Re-Releasing "When Angels & Serpents Dance" With Bonus Tracks

After 14 years, “When Angels & Serpents Dance” is finally getting the release treatment it should have always gotten. This is a favorite P.O.D. album of mine next to their other big hits like Fundamental, Satellite, Testify, etc. This album had a very commercial sound and had that “hit” potential but for whatever reason, disappeared to the piles of thrift store dust bins. On October 14th 2022, Mascot Label Group will re-release the P.O.D. album newly remixed, remastered, and with 3 bonus tracks not on the original album.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Dogwood - In The Line of Fire

With regard to the news of today that is surely causing friend to turn against friend, family members against each other, man against man, woman against woman, and the general disregard for one’s truth, with precious life taking a back seat, I thought I’d share a song that fits today’s message. This song is called “In The Line of Fire” and it appears on Dogwood’s 2nd full length record, “Through Thick and Thin” (1997). It’s a great song and the sentiment still rings true. A few words… Remember who is inflaming tensions, who is stoking the fires of anger and hate, and who is ripping apart our humanity at the seams.… Continued →
