Today’s song of the day is going back, I mean WAY back into Christian rock past. I’ve always dug the band Whitecross. So much of their music was similar to what was coming out in the 80’s/90’s sound wise but they had their own spin and music chops to back it up. Rex Carroll was a force of nature and Scott’s raw vocal talents cut through the noise and all those sappy moments. They were true innovators in a scene run rampant with drugs, sex, and that whole vulgar image people ate up. While so many other rock acts of that time period were drunk and/or stoned out of their minds most of the time, bands like Whitecross, Stryper, Deliverance, Tourniquet, Holy Soldier, Guardian, Bride, Petra, Barren Cross, Altar Boys, Bloodgood, and many more, made music on their own terms without outside influences. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not naïve to think temptations weren’t there for some of these bands in their respective time periods but they soldiered on (sober) and their talents really shined through the darkness. God bless Whitecross and what they did at that time which seems to have been lost to an ever changing climate of what’s new and trendy. Seemingly they’ve becoming yesterday’s news which is tragic in and of itself but blame people’s short attention spans. Thankfully, we all have our streaming networks, downloads, YouTube, and even our CDs and vinyl. If you dug bands like RATT, LA Guns, Tesla, Guns n Roses, Van Halen, and even Stryper, Barren Cross, and Bloodgood then you would find interest in Whitecross. This is one of my favorites titled “Enough Is Enough” and is one of their earliest songs.
One of my favorite songs from them!
