REVIEW : Festival Review: Purple Door 2006

Purple Door 2006 Festival Review 10:41, Sunday night. This is the first I have been home since Friday morning. The reason? I was at a music fest in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania known at Purple Door. Well, today I just went straight to church and then some other stuff, but still… I have been to Purple Door. I have seen new bands, I have seen stages torn down, and I have met Joel and Cory. And while I have told a number of you that this review would be short and to the point, as I sit here now to write, I realize that that was a horrible idea, and less people may read this for it’s being so long, but those who do read it will enjoy it more as I give you more details.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Bernard

Interview with the band BERNARD Interview by: Joel Official buzz-band and one of the most pleasant surprises for me personally was the band Bernard. With cinematic grace and epic musical soundscapes they captivated their audience in the packed-out tent, shining like a light amidst thousands of bumper-car-core shows, the three-piece ambient-rock band Bernard blew me away. I instantly stole to the back waiting to meet up with one of the members for an interview. As soon as the main questions were done I turned off my recorder and spent another half hour just talking about our views on religion and the church, one of my most memorable conversations at Cornerstone 2006, here’s what I got for you guys: First, a word from an audience member.… Continued →

One of the highlights of Cornerstone 2006 was getting to see a whole gang of my old hometown friends, specifically the boys(and girl) in Lincoln’s Revenge, a new prog influenced orchestrated rock band, hailing from my old hometown of Guelph, Ontario(that is Canada folks). So I managed to catch up with them when they weren’t playing their own generator stage or showcasing on the Impromptu stage for a mob of crazed fans overjoyed to see some brass in the midst of the traditional metal mayhem. Joel IVM: State who you are and what you do.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Why They Came

So half way into Cornerstone Music Festival 2006 I was completely exhausted, sick of screaming music, and ready to pass out from sun exposure. I was spending some bonding time with some random people I had met just outside of one of the two Encore stages when Why They Came started their set. I wasn’t paying complete attention but I kept asking around trying to figure out who these people were, and mostly why their crowd consisted of 5-10 people. First they bring us The Myriad, who’s 2005 release “You Can’t Trust A Ladder”, blew me away and now comes Bernard. I had heard about these guys when they had released their independent album “Trust? REVIEW : Watson Park "Self Titled"

Album: WatsonPark Artist: WatsonPark Label: Unsigned I have to say it: I have a soft spot for some good folk-pop. I really do. I’m a pretty massive fan of the “nu-folk” movement which was revived in the late 90s and has carried over to today. Whiskeytown, early Wilco, Norah Jones, Damien Rice…I’m a sucker for all of them. The “singer/songwriter” set. Good stuff. It’s a little hard to peg down sometimes. It’s not pop enough to be called “pop”, but there’s nothing really too “folk” (and especially nothing “country”) about it.… Continued →
