The Final Quarter of 2019 Goes Off With a Bang

We are finishing up 2019 with a BANG! New release from The Blamed is out now, Mainframe “Ties That Bind” on November 9th, Inner 29 “Now and Again, Here” out November 22nd, Heart Like War “Thoughts On This” Ep out Nov/Dec, and the long awaited album from Names Without Numbers out in December. 5 Releases between October and December, that’s pure insanity but we made it happen (somehow). I have a strong passion for independent music and my heart rests with those bands striving to get their voices heard among the rubble of the rock n’ roll scene.… Continued →

What Do You Want to See More of From IVM?

I would like to thank long time reader and supporter MrM for giving me an idea for a news post. I’d like to take a minute and ask you all some questions. Since the site re-launch in November 2016 the site has gone through somewhat of a transformation namely a indie label and also other features site wise. Yes, I know the “Album Release Database” has all but disappeared but we do have other elements to keep you interested (I hope). My question to all of you is, What do you want to see more of here at IVM?… Continued →

Song of the Day: Corey Crowder - Learning to Let Go

Last week, over at the IVM discussion group on Facebook, a conversation ensued about indie labels within the Christian music scene. Mono vs. Stereo was mentioned, and I commented about their impressive 2005 compilation, The Revolution Will Begin in the Blink of an Eye Vol. 2. One of the artists I enjoyed most on this CD was A Farewell to Arms, who later went by his personal name, Corey Crowder. Currently, it looks like Crowder is more involved in the country music scene as a producer/songwriter, rather than focusing on his work as a solo artist.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Crowd Control - There Are Houses

Over the past 2-3 years, I’ve been discovering a bunch of old Christian punk, post-punk, and new wave that I didn’t know existed. One of the best examples is a short-lived band from the south coast of England called Crowd Control. I only know of one track they recorded, which can be found on the excellent “Shots in the Dark” compilation. The album features other UK-based punk, new wave, and ska tracks. “There are Houses” is brilliant. It’s dark, brooding, true post-punk with enough keyboards to keep things interesting.… Continued →

Panther City Riots (Matt Shelton) Release Debut Song "Desire"

Matt Shelton formerly of Letter Kills, The Wedding, and his solo work IS BACK with brand new project titled Panther City Riots. Check out their debut song titled “Desire” below. Awesome band name a song full of new wave-like alt-pop ambiance. It’s like The Cure meets Blaq Audio meets Depeche Mode walking into a room with U2 and Head Automatica. Good stuff and I think a lot of people are going to dig this new sound/direction. Check out his kickstarter campaign to fund the new album.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Mars ILL - Inside Out

Mars ILL’s “Inside Out” is one of the most convicting songs I’ve ever heard. Backbreakanomics (2003) is a classic album as a whole, but Dust’s production on this song is what really sets it apart, with its haunting samples and DJ scratches. Manchild uses the occasion to tell a story which focuses on social inequality, spiritual transformation, and justice. Blames the system that built jails instead of schools / Blames religion as a set of useless rules / Blames his father that he never even knew / Looks in the mirror.Continued →

Nomis - Atlas

Nomis has some positive hip-hop for you this Thursday, and the jazz-based production is very nice on this one. “Atlas” is now available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, and all other digital outlets. The press release from SOHH PR reads: Drafting out of the momentum of the group cypher, “Open Season”, Nomis releases his second single in the “Least of Green” series. Unlike the previous single, Nomis keeps the alphabet acrobatics all to himself on this one. “Atlas”, is a fun song that celebrates Hip-Hop, speaks to the early years of Nomis’ development as an artist, and ultimately lands where Nomis is now as a father and a husband back in his hometown of Oceanside, California.… Continued →
