I’ll just come out and say it, “Deathbed” is quite possibly the best “Christian” song that has been written in the past 15 years. That is quite a statement to make and I’ll tell you why. First of all, bands who can create an 11 minute “epic” song with constant peaks and valleys all the while captivating the listener with a heavy dose of heart tugging melodrama, you know they are doing it right. For the first time in over 20 years, Officer Negative “Dead To The World” gets the vinyl treatment. Officer Negative’s 1998 debut full length on Screaming Giant Records has been meticulously remastered for vinyl with recreated art from the original photos, drawings, and graphics that inspired the original release. I had a hand in sharing this band with Screaming Giant Records founder, Kendall Nadeau, all the way back in 1996/1997 through their very early demos. Beloved (US) released this absolutely flawless cover of U2’s classic song, “Like a Song”, last month. It is without a doubt, one of my favorite cover songs by an artist we write about and quite simply one of the best songs of 2020. To be honest, I wasn’t as familiar with this U2 song as much as their other more famous tracks but nonetheless the band put their own unique spin on it and blew it out of the water. Shane, why must you create such fresh, relevant, heart wrenching new music? This song literally grabs you by the throat and well, releases a flood of all the best emotions. In reality, this song does anything but “Choke” you but it does grip you with a collection of notes and music performed by a talented ensemble of well seasoned musicians. Ted Bond (Lead Vocalist/Guitarist/songwriter for the band Craig’s Brother), his wife, and their children, have been displaced by the recent wildfires in Northern California and are unable to return home. They’ve had to evacuate and will not be allowed to return for some time. Basically they are homeless and just living day by day. CB guitarist and songwriter, Steven Neufeld, has started a Go Fund Me just to help Ted and Family get by during these difficult times. A lot of families are struggling through not only the pandemic, but also loss of work and income as a result and add to the mess of 2020 with these wildfires and you just have a terrible whole year.… Continued →

Homeplate dropped their debut ep “Derby City” last Friday and it seems to be garnering quite some interest. Check out another song off this Ep titled “I Need Grace” which is a lot more straight forward than other relationship type faith innuendo tracks. The Simple Plan meets old Hawk Nelson sound of this song and acoustic guitar strumming beginning is sure to make a fan out of any pop-punk follower of the early 00’s. There have been so many u2 cover songs over the years and u2 cover bands (you know who you are) but none as powerful as this new Beloved version. I’m sorry but I just have to say that this is the most powerful U2 cover by a rock band that I’ve ever heard! I used to think Thrush’s version of “New Years Day” was pretty awesome but this one takes the cake. The production is near perfect, all the instruments played with a certain melodic ferocity and the intensity of vocals absolutely blows me away.… Continued →
