While I know we don’t cover a lot of what are referred to as “CCM” artists, I’ve never really considered Third Day such. They’ve always just been rock to me and were one of the bands I really got into in Christian music. Punk rock and pizza are similar in more ways than one. While the two can complement each other quite well, music – like food – requires a recipe. Unfortunately, Young Poet’s Thrive in a Modern Era tastes more like a dubious experiment than a well-made pizza pie. Opening song “Alizaren,” catches me completely by surprise with the spoken word akin to Being As An Ocean or Listener. I thought this was pop punk? Nashville, TN is known for a number of things, but the thing that tops the list is music. If you were to walk down Broadway, each restaurant and bar you pass has live music going on, all of it diverse. It’s on street corners as buskers play their hearts out for little more than the love of the music and the heart to share it with others. One band that stands out in the middle of all of this is Samecity. With all these new reunions fresh in our minds and the rivers of nostalgia running deep, it was only time before the mighty Squad 5-0 came back and dropped a new album on us. Beloved Southern California 90’s alt-rock band, The Prayer Chain, have just announced a new campaign to fund the vinyl pressing of their much loved debut full length “Shawl”. The band crossed all barriers and industry confines to write songs that conveyed emotions which the general “Christian” market just wasn’t prepared to deal with at the time. Their music transcends all labels and tags that may be associated with the band to truly be recognized as the powerhouse rock act that they were. 2017 was a pretty decent year for music! Between finding newer bands, the resurgence of others from years of inaction, and great albums from bands we’ve come to love and depend on for great music, it was pretty tough to be disappointed.
