Song of the Day: Circle of Birds - Circle of Birds

I haven’t yet featured any post-rock on the Song of the Day series, so it’s time to remedy that. Circle of Birds was a one-off collaboration between members of Ester Drang, Unwed Sailor and Lasso. The vast ensemble (encompassing nine members!) allowed for a true spirit of improvisation. The resulting 3-song EP is entirely instrumental, but it’s a very satisfying listen. Characteristic for the genre, 2 of the 3 songs clock in at over 7 minutes long.… Continued →

Diving Deep into Shoegaze

So a new friend or acquaintance finds out you’re into music. The inevitable question follows: “what kind of music do you like?” How honest are you? Do you try something a little more honest, but still generic, like, “mostly rock stuff.” No, that won’t work either–they might think you mean Lynyrd Skynyrd. Or are you blatantly honest with them, knowing they are unlikely to have a clue what you mean: “my favorite genre is probably shoegaze.”… Continued →

The indie/shoegaze band has garnered much interest here in the states by way of Finland/Germany where the members reside. You can listen to the new song “Praise for the Bereft” below. “Incredible”, “Breathtaking”, “Inspiring” are not words to merely toss casually at artists in regards to igniting false hype around something a journalist may find especially appealing (or a record label deems “Important” for us as writers to check out).… Continued →

Introducing: Lost Things

Hailing for Sacramento, Lost Things has emerged to play some fresh post-rock/hardcore. These guys have songs that span influences from Being as an Ocean and Oh Sleeper to Jesus Culture (Consumed-era) and Emery, maybe with a slight Take It Back! influence in the faster songs. The album artwork seems to allude to a highly political punk attitude however the lyrics convey a message of seeking truth and dealing with personal problems. FacebookContinued →

Hands - The Sounds of Earth (Playlist)
