Five Iron Frenzy Announce Two So Cal Shows in August with Craig's Brother and The Ruffolos

Five Iron Frenzy are adding some exciting “Old School Set” shows around the country celebrating the band’s rich past and fun, sometimes goofy, nature. The band just announced 2 more shows for the old school sets and they are happening right here in Southern California this August. First show is on August 9th at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. and the 2nd show is at House Of Blues in San Diego. Both shows will feature Craig’s Brother and The Ruffolos. I’ve got insider news that a few members of Too Bad Eugene will also be playing in the lineup for Craig’s Brother that evening, similar to the CB lineup that played a series of shows in Canada around Red Bridge Fest last year (look it up on YouTube).… Continued →

Reese Roper of Five Iron Frenzy Gets Interviewed by Labeled Podcast

Reese Roper, the charismatic vocalist and somewhat inspiring lyricist of some of the biggest songs the music scene has never heard by a little band the 90’s cared about called Five Iron Frenzy, just got interviewed by crew over at the “Labeled” Podcast. You can listen to a clip below via Spotify or listen wherever you stream your podcasts. Also, the band has put together a total dumpster fire of a box set on really crappy vinyl and it is available right here. I believe the box set is only available for purchase for a few more weeks so get it while it’s a steaming, flaming, pile of poo.… Continued →

A Most Unnecessary Five Iron Frenzy Box Set Reaction by: Brandon Jones

This dumpster fire of a box set is sure to break the wallets of Five Iron fans across the world but also allow existing Five Iron vinyl owners to customize their order options and buy what they really need, food! Enough with that inflation, what we need is good old crappy third wave ska punk in vinyl format! The most exciting part for myself is the addition of “The End is Near” on vinyl for the first time plus “Proof That The Youth Are Revolting” and a really cool B-Sides record chock full of songs no one cares about.… Continued →

Everything Is Gonna Be Alright, Be Strong, Believe: 20 Hits From 20 Years Ago

*This is an update to an article that originally appeared on Indie Vision Music back in 2018 for the 15th Anniversaries of the albums below. Some wording and arrangements may have been altered. I hope you enjoy this article as much as I enjoy these albums. Happy 20th to all these and many more that may have been accidentally left off the list (my memory is fuzzy). 15 20 years ago, a collection of what can now be determined as “Classic Hits” were unleashed on a crowd that had an insatiable appetite for what was new and considered “ROCK” music.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Five Iron Frenzy - A New Hope

This song “A New Hope” by underdog heroes – Five Iron Frenzy, was released after the tragic Columbine shootings that took place in Colorado back in 1999. It is just as touching and relevant today as it was almost 25 years ago. I will not spend any time on getting political here. The world has enough activists, and my voice is but a tiny speck of dust on a pile of needles hidden within a massive haystack. What happened in Nashville and frankly around the world on a continual basis is about more than just weapons, drugs, mental health, hate, anger, pain, fear, etc.… Continued →

Five Iron Frenzy - When They Find You (Feat. Mike Herrera of MxPx)

In honor of Five Iron Frenzy day, the band drops hard hitting new song – “When They Find You”. The song features backing vocals from Mike Herrera of long running left coast punk act, MxPx. Listening to this song first time through I made up assumptions and drew targets to throw foam darts at in the hopes making my confusion stick somehow. I read through some comments on different social media sites, scratching my head reading some of the responses then instantly connected with the lyrics Reese Roper posted in the comments of the FIF page (Facebook).… Continued →

Song of the Day: The O.C. Supertones - Adonai

No, The Supertones weren’t the first Christian ska band. The Israelites’ first album pre-dated them by a year. But in the UK, Rev Counta and the Speedoze* (another incarnation of Ishmael United) had released a full-length as early as 1980! And perhaps some Jamaican bands that didn’t fit into the CCM/CBA mold had been active earlier than that, it’s hard to say. However, the Supertones were the first Christian ska band to release an album on a nationally-distributed label, releasing The Adventures of the O.C. Supertones just a few months before Five Iron Frenzy dropped Upbeats and Beatdowns.… Continued →

Reese Roper (Five Iron Frenzy) and Joe Yerke (Insyderz) Launch Pickle & Bootshoppe Podcast

Reese Roper and Joe Yerke are up to their old games again. They obliterating our ear drums with a new podcast that will chase friends away and make enemies of family members. This “Pickle & Boot Shoppe Podcast” is the things nightmares are made of. Listen through your favorite podcasting/digital network now. Make Millennials shed snowflake tears with this icy cold, middle aged attempt to grasp at fading youth. Well, you know I do appreciate the music of both their respective bands so I can’t knock this too hard even if they are jaded, sarcastic old guys that reek of grotesque cynicism.… Continued →

Reese Roper Launches ARCLIGHT MICROPHONES (Through Kickstarter)

A really cool new microphone brand that I just stumbled upon through Kickstarter this morning is being brought to the forefront by none other than Reese Roper of Five Iron Frenzy and Brave Saint Saturn. He also mentions a “New Wave” project by the name of Heartwrench, coming soon (so excited for this). His new microphone company – ARCLIGHT MICROPHONES, has just launched on Kickstarter and they are seeking to raise $10,000 to cover costs of creating this one of a kind new design/concept.… Continued →

My Thoughts on the New Five Iron Frenzy Album

Edit: Five Iron Frenzy themselves have posted updated lyrics with corrections made, click here. Also, I left out info on “So We Sing” which is a catchy song in it’s own right but I didn’t mention because it was the first single released a few months back and I assumed most had heard it. Carry on…. Five Iron Frenzy surprised just about everyone by dropping their brand new, electrifying full length album on Friday. It is a complete, total dumpster fire wreck of an album and filled with nothing but pure feces.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Five Iron Frenzy - You Gotta Get Up

When Happy Christmas Vol. 1 hit my ears, I was pleasantly and delightfully impressed. It had some of my favorite bands at the time doing their best versions of Christmas classics. One of those songs was “You Gotta Get Up” by Five Iron Frenzy which was originally composed by Rich Mullins (RIP). The song is a playful tune with a bouncy rhythm and plenty of holiday cheer, perfect for the Christmas season. Well placed horn section and Reese’s unforgettable voice, I mean that in the most sincere way.… Continued →

Five Iron Frenzy - So We Sing (Lyric Video and Watch Out For Angry Grown Ups)

Five Iron Frenzy just dropped their controversial new song with a reference to a donkey. Forgive Reese, he really doesn’t know that he just invited like a ton of grown ups to come chase him down, and maybe their kids too? Yikes! Seriously though, people will be upset (even I have questionable taste) but remember one thing, the more angry you get, the more Reese will write. Please do not give Reese & Co. more reason to write lyrics. End it now. With that little disclaimer said, check out the song below and contribute to their kickstarter if you like that sort of thing right here.… Continued →

Five Iron Frenzy Return With First New Album Since 2013

Five Iron Frenzy have suited up in their super punk rock suits once again to battle time in their pursuit of world domination. Ok, maybe that’s a little dramatic but the band is back in action and ready to drop a kickstarter campaign TOMORROW. You’ve seen the hints, you’ve seen the activity, now head over to kickstarter right here and “save” the campaign so you’ll be the first to take part when it does launch, tomorrow. Hopefully good things await us?… Continued →

Song of the Day: Five Iron Frenzy - World Without End

Ok, yes I know, I am incredibly biased toward the music and sound of Five Iron Frenzy. They are high up on my list of “favorite bands” and I hold their songs close to my heart. I was browsing Instagram this morning and saw a couple of fans cover this song in their own unique way as seen on the FIF page and I had to bust this track out from the dusty bins of my fragile mind. It’s a beautiful song in and of itself.… Continued →

Leanor from Five Iron Frenzy Launches Podcast

Leanor Ortega Till of the band Five Iron Frenzy (otherwise known as Jeff the Girl) has just launched her very own podcast titled “Too Punk to Be a Hippie”. You can find the first episode on the official website right here. What do you think? I know the scene has gotten overrun with podcasts to the point of over-saturation but having a punk rock woman’s voice in the mix can never be a bad thing.… Continued →

Article: What is Wrong With This World?

Preface: I just want to put it out there that this is a personal opinion and my opinion alone. I am in no way advocating for a particular position and political party. / I am no expert on American Politics nor do I pretend to have all the answers. Things irritate me, positions annoy me, politics is a game. I am just so sick of it all. It’s sad when all sides of the spectrum play us as pawns in this carefully constructed game of chess, creating this madness and big budget Hollywood style extravaganza we call modern media.… Continued →

Song Of The Day: The Insyderz - Sinner's Songbook

Today’s song of the day comes in the form of some punk-ska from our friends in Michigan based band – The Insyderz. I was a fan of this band dating back to 1997 when I heard their debut full length, “Motor City Ska”. The band released 3 full lengths, 2 worship/praise albums, and this final (?) full length in 2012. The song that meant the most to me and had me spinning it again was “Sinner’s Songbook”. The track features Joe’s (Yerke) gritty yet melodic, vocal delivery alongside the vocals of Reese Roper (Five Iron Frenzy), and Matt Morginsky (OC Supertones).… Continued →

Who Is This God Person Anyway?

Lee Brown who was a writer and prominent member of the IVM family here (not to mention a Pastor), has written his second book and it is available via Amazon right here. The book is titled “Who Is This God Person Anyway?”. The forwards of this book were written by Leanor Ortega Till of Five Iron and Seth Hecox formerly of Becoming The Archetype. I think you’ll all find something of great depth here in this book and some challenging questions that are raised. The book is available both as a paperback and as a digital copy via Amazon here.… Continued →

Pick It Up - Ska In the 90's Film

Some awesome people have come together to make an awesome movie and dare I say, it looks AWESOME! Seriously, a lot of us here in Southern California grew up with this Ska stuff and these influential bands truly had something remarkable to say not to mention the actual music that set a precedent for what was to come. This new film called “Pick it Up – Ska in the 90’s” is currently being filmed and will document everything cool that took place during the heyday of Third Wave Ska in the 90’s across the country.… Continued →
