Some awesome people have come together to make an awesome movie and dare I say, it looks AWESOME! Seriously, a lot of us here in Southern California grew up with this Ska stuff and these influential bands truly had something remarkable to say not to mention the actual music that set a precedent for what was to come. This new film called “Pick it Up – Ska in the 90’s” is currently being filmed and will document everything cool that took place during the heyday of Third Wave Ska in the 90’s across the country. There will be interviews with all the big ones like Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, No Doubt, Save Ferris, Dance Hall Crashers, Hepcat, Buck O Nine, The Toasters, Fishbone, as well as members of Five Iron Frenzy and The O.C. Supertones. The makers of this film have launched a kickstarter to fund the process and make it something HUGE. Heck, maybe even a theater premiere could happen if enough people contribute to this campaign. Click here for the campaign. You can watch a few clips below. SKA SKA SKA! #SkaLives

Last release of April and for several weeks will be Must Build Jacuzzi “Last Place” and I am truly excited about this release among all the other fantastic albums put out this past month. Tapes are going fast due to it’s limited nature so get yours right here. After these “Metallic Gold” ones sell out it will not be reprinted and next pressing will be on a new color. Now on to the really exciting announcement, Indie Vision Music can officially say we have Billboard Charting Songs on the Nielsen Top Christian Rock Charts! It may seem insignificant and so small time but for a label like IVM with no team, no employees, no radio staff, this is a huge accomplishment. I’ve been working so hard at this for nearly 18 years and have never reached such a powerful ranking. This is only the beginning and there is still so much more to offer. If you want to help IVM continue charting, call BrokenFM or visit them at www.broken.fm and make your requests. The songs below are the ones I have charting.

Two of Five Iron Frenzy’s classic releases, “Quantity Is Job #1” Ep and “All The Hype That Money Can Buy” are both available on unique colored vinyl from SMLXL Vinyl right here. Read below for pressing info. Be like me and throw your money at one of the worst bands possible. This vinyl sucks so bad that the vile stench of garbage will pour forth from your record player upon first spin. Seriously, FIF smells so bad that not even the fire department can douse these flames of crap. Use these records as an oversized Frisbee although your dog will probably get sick from catching one, as a coaster which will probably break any glass placed upon it, or just use it as a flimsy weapon that will most likely get your harmed or killed in a fight with gangsters. Sorry FIF, I have better ways of spending my money like buying that super cool Justin Bieber record! Speaking of FIF, I have a new music video that you can find below, it’s titled “Baby” and I think you’ll dig it.

Yep, the list you’ve all been waiting for (not really) is finally here. Feel free to offer up some laughs and critical remarks for the music I listened to the most 20 years ago. You’ll notice a heavy T&N presence and I just couldn’t help myself. There were a lot of albums and releases I found myself spinning back then and still getting plays today. I think that’s where this list falls in place, it’s the albums that had the longest lasting impact with me and had a catchy sound that I just couldn’t get enough of. I ride more on the commercial, melodic side of the market rather than all that arty ear splitting noise rock ;) I created a special Spotify play list that you can find near the end of the article. Some of these titles are out of print and only available in YouTube form so enjoy those unheard hits within the article. Remember kids, “some” of these releases may not have the best language so if you get queasy at the thought of dirty words from the general market (do we still use the word ‘secular’?) bands, you may want to skip those parts. So check out my faves below and don’t forget to check out “The Best of 2007” list which can be found here. Hop in your time machine and let’s get ready to party like its 1997!

A few weeks ago I was browsing through the used section of my local record store and was thrilled to see a whole bunch of old school Christian “punk” CDs. For $3 or $4 each, I got albums by The Insyderz, Twothirtyeight, Value-Pac, Ill Harmonics, and Pedro the Lion. Continued →
