Song of the Day: Millipede - Diplopoda Crawl

Instrumental music and Christianity have always shared a wonderfully curious relationship, adding a twist to the age old question, “what makes music Christian (or not)?” While attempting to answer that questions is always interesting, and dare I say, fruitful, it would take up much more time and space than what we are afforded here. Nonetheless, it seems appropriate to quote Johann Sebastian Bach: “The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.”… Continued →

Early Good Luck Varsity Releases Now on Spotify

Before American Arson and Speak Low If You Speak Love, Good Luck Varsity was paving the way with their unique take on pop-punk. What most fans don’t know is that there are a couple releases prior to the eponymous Thrones EP, and now you can listen to them all on Spotify. It’s not exactly certain when they were added, and they’re admittedly a bit more rough around the edges, but you’ll see new dimensions of the band you likely haven’t before (like synth rock and mid-2000s emo).… Continued →

Return of the Not-So-Weekly New Release Sampler

I’ve been creating new playlists every month this year that feature my favorite newly released songs. It turns out though it’s difficult to build a following when you’re constantly creating new playlists. So I’ve decided it’s time to resurrect the Weekly New Release Sampler that’s been stagnating for nearly a year now. Except it probably won’t be weekly anymore. Instead I intend to continue what I’ve already been doing this year by updating the playlist once a month with the best new releases. So follow along and discover some of the great new music!… Continued →

Indie Vision Music Turns 20

20 years ago I launched a site called IndieVisionMusic.com. It was initially an online Webstore only but then morphed into a record label then webzine then label and now all 3. It wasn’t a huge behemoth by any means (never was). I still run almost all operations myself in my free time when I’m not working or spending quality family time. I have a great team of skilled writers on the webzine side that work so hard to keep you all updated and filled with inspiring content.… Continued →

The Best Albums of 2020 So Far From A to Z

I was considering putting together a list of my favorite albums (and EPs!) from 2020 so far today when I had a better idea! Instead of giving you my top 10 or something like that I decided to give you album for each letter of the alphabet! At least that was the idea anyway. It turns out finding an album for each letter can be a bit tricky (I’m looking at you Q and X!). The good news is was able to find artist for almost every letter who released an album or EP between January and June this year.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Rick Altizer - Oyster

I’ve been listening to a lot of the Beach Boys lately. Like, a lot. They’ve been my favourite band since childhood. What is it about the comforting sounds of childhood that helps us make sense of turmoil? With covid19, racism, and political division, something about that longing for innocence, for simpler times has got me digging deep into those smooth sounds. In the late 90s, KMG Records put out a compilation of surf rock and surf-inspired tunes called Surfonic: Water Revival, which was spearheaded and produced by Terry Taylor of Daniel Amos.… Continued →

American Arson - A Line in the Sand

REVIEW : American Arson - A Line in the Sand

It'd be an understatement to say A Line in the Sand is highly-anticipated. Many IVM readers have supported the band since their inception, and our vicarious connection here has culminated to something truly exciting. This is the kind of album we deserve from American Arson - one that balances the best of their catalog with a insatiable hunger for growth. It's a lyrically-bold album which never obfuscates what it's trying to say. And while it takes a few listens to take everything in, A Line in the Sand is an ambitious debut LP that will not disappoint.

Veteran emcee J. Crum has just released his brand new, self-produced single entitled “Lost & Found” featuring indietribe. member Jarry Manna. “Lost & Found” is about understanding our identity isn’t in the things of this world. Though at times we feel lost, there is a place that we belong. J. Crum shares, “I spent a lot of wasted time trying to fit in spaces that I had no business being in. Song of the Day: All Saved Freak Band - All Across This Nation

For my Song of the Day this time round, we’re going back. Like way back. To the beginning of Jesus rock. It’s widely accepted that Larry Norman is the “godfather of Christian rock” and you can make a reasonable case for that. But he wasn’t the first. Several other bands and artists were contemporary with him, including Liverpool’s own The Crossbeats, Agape, and the All Saved Freak Band. Arguably the first rocker, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, was also a Christian and a gospel artist, plugging in her electric guitar long before Bill Haley and the Comets set on the scene.… Continued →
