Thrice - Red Sky
On this slow Sunday I figured I’d do a little video flashback from the band Thrice. This song “Red Sky” appeared on the band’s 2005 full length effort, “Vehissu“. Following up the chart topping, fan favorite “The Artist in the Ambulance” seemed like a troublesome task but take a skilled band like Thrice and the end result further proved that the band’s prior success was definitely no “fluke”. This was and still is a band that is here to stay.… Continued →

7 Horns 7 Eyes, the death metal band from Washington, has started to record again, after taking an unofficial hiatus. The band started in 2006 with two brothers, Aaron and Brandon Smith and their friend, Kyle Wood, whose brother, Ryan, joined the band and later Project 86. 7 Horns 7 Eyes started working on a new album after Ryan’s departure, with the lineup of the Smiths, Vocalist JJ Polachek, Guitarist Sean Alf, and, for this session, Unearth Drummer Nick Pierce. The band’s Facebook page put this image up:
On November 13, 2016 (today as I’m writing this), JJ Polachek, who they call Shiv, posted a photo on his Instagram.… Continued →
Tiger Drive (Ex OceanSpeak) Teases New Music
Tiger Drive, a Nashville progressive indie band featuring members of OceanSpeak, recently posted a video on Facebook from one of the group’s rehearsals. While the sound is definitely a departure from the groovy, post-hardcore elements that OceanSpeak showcased at times, there’s definitely plenty for old and new fans to enjoy. Check out the video here and be sure to give their page a like!

INTERVIEW : Joshua Powell of Joshua Powell & The Great Train Robbery
Joshua Powell, of Joshua Powell & The Great Train Robbery, was kind enough to talk with me over email about his music last year. REVIEW : To Speak Of Wolves - New Bones EP
It’s been a very quiet handful of years for the North Carolina metal act “To Speak Of Wolves”. After releasing the thunderous “Find Your Worth, Come Home,” they vanished from the music scene with little having to say about it. Four years later, they’ve come back from the dead releasing an EP and a relentless touring schedule.
It’s a worrisome thing coming back after so much time passing. Usually when bands take years off, they return with only a hint of what they once had simply because they lost the sound they used to call their own.… Continued →

REVIEW : Norma Jean - Polar Similar
The Almighty Norma Jean simply cannot be stopped. The storied band just released their seventh record, and it’s their best yet. They’ve reunited with Solid State records, their production has never sounded better, and despite having been around over fifteen years, Polar Similar proves they haven’t lost any steam.
Norma Jean has been an anomaly for quite a few years. Meridional and Wrongdoers showed the group continuing to stretch themselves to top each previous studio effort. They’ve been on an upward streak since 2010, and I was curious whether they could continue the trend with Polar Similar.… Continued →
