Rottweiler Records Taking Submissions for "Fleas Naughty Dog Vol.4"

Rottweiler Records is taking submissions for their annual Christmas comp, entitled an album “Fleas Naughty Dog Vol.4”. The label does this every year and even did one with Indie Vision Music awhile ago. The compilation has had a few submissions including, Leper, Wretched Graverobber, Grave Robber, Death Requisite, Peter 118, and Immortal Souls (go figure, what with their love of winter and snow. Here’s proof). Anyways, send your submissions to this address. Continued →

INTERVIEW : Joshua Powell of Joshua Powell & The Great Train Robbery

Joshua Powell, of Joshua Powell & The Great Train Robbery, was kind enough to talk with me over email about his music last year. Our discussion covers his take on the current state of the American folk scene, the difficulty navigating between the business and artistic aspects of being a professional musician, and his personal creative songwriting process on his third album Aylosha. IVM: Alyosha is your third album, following up 2013’s Man Is Born For Trouble, and I can hear the two-year gap.Continued →

REVIEW : To Speak Of Wolves - New Bones EP

It’s been a very quiet handful of years for the North Carolina metal act “To Speak Of Wolves”. After releasing the thunderous “Find Your Worth, Come Home,” they vanished from the music scene with little having to say about it. Four years later, they’ve come back from the dead releasing an EP and a relentless touring schedule. It’s a worrisome thing coming back after so much time passing. Usually when bands take years off, they return with only a hint of what they once had simply because they lost the sound they used to call their own.… Continued →

Heart Like War - Bring it On

Los Angeles based pop-punk band Heart Like War released this fun little music video for their new song “Bring it On” a few months back and I wanted to spotlight it for those of you that didn’t know who these guys are. The band released their 2nd full length album titled “Fired Up” on Thumper Punk Records back in June of this year. Fans of Mxpx, Sum 41, Blink 182, and old Hawk Nelson will find something to appreciate in this new album. Continued →

REVIEW : Norma Jean - Polar Similar

The Almighty Norma Jean simply cannot be stopped. The storied band just released their seventh record, and it’s their best yet. They’ve reunited with Solid State records, their production has never sounded better, and despite having been around over fifteen years, Polar Similar proves they haven’t lost any steam. Norma Jean has been an anomaly for quite a few years. Meridional and Wrongdoers showed the group continuing to stretch themselves to top each previous studio effort. They’ve been on an upward streak since 2010, and I was curious whether they could continue the trend with Polar Similar.… Continued →

The Dawn Retreat Returns from the Dead

The Dawn Retreat, a punk/alternative metal band from the Quad Cities, has risen from the grave after five years of silence. Appropriately, they made their return at the Halloween-themed Whorror Fest on October 29. While their official reunion show isn’t until February, we can likely expect more from the band before then. Until then, you can listen to their previous release below. Also, frontman Dan Smotz has his own music you can find here. Continued →

ForeverAtLast - Shoreline

Another band I want to highlight is the melodic punk band ForeverAtLast which released an explosive collection of songs last year in the album “Ghosts Again”. The band is touring constantly and you may have caught them at a show this past year. Think of Paramore meets Children 18:3 meets Anberlin meets Heartsounds and you’ve got a good impression of what this female led punk band sounds like. “Ghosts Again” available now wherever fine music is sold. Check out this music video for the song “Shoreline”.… Continued →

Islander - Bad Guy

An album I’ve been enjoying since it was released back in August is by the band Islander. The album is called “Power Under Control” and it has that Blindside meets POD meets Deftones meets Papa Roach vibe. The album was released by Victory Records back on August 5th (stream on spotify below) and this is a video for the track “Bad Buy” off the album. Enjoy! Continued →
