Ben Knight - The Lighter Side of The Dark Knight
Check out this fun lyric video by the comical and incredibly catchy indie-hip hop artist, Ben Knight, below. The song is titled “The Lighter Side Of The Dark Knight” and I think you’ll pick up on the content once you give it a listen and read the lyrics. The music of Ben Knight can best be described as some insane explosion between the music of Will Smith, Weird Al, and Furthermore, while offering a glimpse into the mind of a modern hip hop jokester. It’s a fun, comical, and witty take on modern rap with sounds/beats that will get you humming along for days.… Continued →

REVIEW : DIRE - Depths
DIRE, a metal band from Quitam, GA, released an EP titled “Depths” this past November. “Depths” is the band’s first offering since being signed to Sancrosanct Records earlier that year and is an impressive label debut. “Depths”, however, is preceded by a full length the band released in 2016, titled, “Volume 1” and an earlier, self-titled ep in 2013. Both of these releases were a bit heavier than “Depths”, but to me, it reveals a refining of the bands sound, and in a very positive way.… Continued →

REVIEW : Ledger - Ledger EP
When it was announced that Jen Ledger would be releasing her debut solo ep, it filled many with a sense of excitement, rivaled only by an insatiable curiosity as to what we could expect from it. Would it be hard rock, similar in nature to her band Skillet? Pop? Electronic? Rock? The answer is yes…yes, it is.
The Ledger EP, which drops this Friday, is a fairly diverse offering that has a little something for everyone. A common thread throughout the EP, is a distorted synth type sound, though there’s keys and drums that compliment it in all the right places.… Continued →

Gravity Galore: A Brief History of Christian Songs Titled "Gravity"
“Fire” and “water” are arguably the most overused metaphors in contemporary Christian music. But there is another common nature-themed metaphor in Christian music you may not have noticed: gravity. I by no means consider my research to be exhaustive, but I found nearly two dozen songs from the past 25 years with “gravity” in the title.
Researching Christian music prior to the 1990’s is a difficult task. While I have little doubt that this theme continues back into the 80’s and maybe even 70’s the earliest contemporary Christian song titled “Gravity” I’ve been able to find so far* is from 1995.… Continued →
