25 years of Starflyer 59! (over a dozen contributors)
As you will no doubt have heard, the mighty Starflyer 59 have just released their 15th full-length studio album (not counting dozens of other releases–EPs, 7″ singles, limited edition vinyl, box sets, live albums, etc.) making them officially the most prolific Chrindie band who ever existed. The Chairman Dances - "No Compass, No Map" Official Music Video
The Chairman Dances isn’t exactly known for convention when it comes to videography (case and point: this grocery store panic attack). This time around, their video takes the form of an oversaturated, film-style adventure akin to old home movies. Its plot is simplistic yet whimsical; it was also filmed on one of the coldest days of the year so the depicted antics certainly are not beyond the realm of reason.

REVIEW : Cruentis - Alpha and Omega
This 5-song EP contains 3 songs of melodic death metal (tracks 2-4) sandwiched in between 2 longer, unusual songs that genre-wise feature a hybrid of nu metal, doom metal and some classical instrumentation. Stylistically, the middle 3 tracks are similar to bands like Pantokrator, World to Ashes and similar melodeath bands (or In Flames and At the Gates from a mainstream perspective), but there is not a huge emphasis on the lead guitar. These are the strongest tracks with the most cohesive sound. The first and last tracks are more original, but ironically also weaker.… Continued →

Reading is Listening and Listening is Reading
I’ve enjoyed listening to music much longer than I’ve enjoyed reading books. Reading has only been an interest of mine for the past five years, especially subjects like philosophy, religion, and sociology. What I’ve found through reading books, though, is that it complements listening to music. The relation between books and music in terms of their content, especially lyrically, is undeniable. Even musically, there seems to be room for reading to influence listening, with pictures derived from words being transformed into pictures derived from sound. We end up with snapshots of the sublime and we meditate on them time and time again.… Continued →
