REVIEW : War of Ages - Void

Two thousand and nineteen has proven to be quite the year. One day, a bunch of rowdy hooligans on Facebook are planning how best to invade Area 51, and the next, there’s a War of Ages occurring on planet Djent. Void places an emphasis on groove, which is kicked into full gear by track three, “Blood of the Earth.” That being said, the more conservative fans need not fret; War of Ages are still our metalcore heroes from Mars. “Sulphur and Salt” – a Star Wars metal opera – capitalizes on what is perhaps the band’s greatest virtue: epic choruses.… Continued →

A Few Words on The Death of Jarrid Wilson

I’ve had a rough past few weeks. My moods have gone from the most elated to utter dumps. It has been an exciting time in our family and an incredibly stressful time. We have had our fair share of trials and tribulations the past 5+ years (if you know us or have heard my stories, you’ll understand why). A few days ago a rising young Pastor and mental health advocate named Jarrid Wilson tragically took his own life at the age of 30. He has left behind not only a community of believers but his loving wife and children.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Theory Hazit - Unforgivable

“Ain’t been to church in about a year / All my old friends are outta here” I finally got around to listening through The Fall of the Light Bearer (2015) this year, and it’s turned out to be one of the best albums I’ve heard as of late. Serious lyricism and experimental production abound. The melancholic “Unforgivable” is accompanied by fine cinematography and gives an accurate impression of what the album is like as a whole.… Continued →

Wait For The Day - Nothing Will Feel The Same (Official Music Video)

So I was watching RadioU video channel yesterday and caught a video from this band – Wait For The Day. Apparently we covered them back in 2017 but then they slipped back under our radar. The band has been making solid music for the past few years and this latest video was posted 10 months ago. This song appears on the band’s latest release “The Sun Will Drown” which is available now. Give these guys a listen and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Post-Hardcore with a certain metal influence.… Continued →

REVIEW : 2Minute Minor - Snake That Ate It's Own Tail

I usually like to have some Kenny or Dolly playing on the turntable in the background as I start writing a review. It gives me the inspiration I need. NOT, but now that I have your attention I must point out that the opening track to this album comes blazing off the starting line at full speed. It’s a skull crushing track and the epic start of an album that brings back that late 80s hardcore punk vibe, and although I didn’t experience that era live, the videos and stories people tell bring it to life.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Waking Ashland - Edinger

Two thousand and five was a very strong year for Tooth & Nail Records, as they released classic albums from Anberlin, Mae, Terminal, and Emery. Another impressive album, though overlooked, was Composure by Waking Ashland. The San Diego four-piece created some seriously catchy indie/piano rock tunes, and “Edinger” proves this point 14 years later.… Continued →

REVIEW : Bram Cools - We Are Civilised!?

The Belgian lo-fi Christian scene himself, Bram Cools, is back with a fourth album. More quirky weirdness accompanied by lyrics that tackle a wide range of social topics. I don’t know how familiar IVM readers are with this Belgian artist, but Bram makes eccentric lo-fi indie pop/rock with socially-conscious lyrics from a European viewpoint. He has over a dozen albums under his belt and Civilised is his latest full length. It stays within the lo-fi umbrella, yet true to that genre, touches on a variety of styles including indie rock, electronica, spoken word, trip-hop, etc.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Lights for Nero - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Weapons Inspectors

Sadly, I only got to attend Cornerstone Festival once. I planned out my schedule in advance: hardcore here, punk rock there, metal over here, all sprinkled with alternative, indie rock, and goth too. If you’ve ever been to the festival, you’ll remember the countless numbers of flyers and leaflets for shows happening that week. One of the most mysterious and interesting was for a band I’d never heard of called Lights for Nero. Although I knew next to nothing about them, that flyer convinced me that I didn’t need to be anywhere else that afternoon.… Continued →

REVIEW : Svarteskerm - Illojala Till Slutet

The fan base of crust punk may be slim, but the music is significant. Returning to the studio is Sweden’s Svarteskerm. Sung entirely in Swedish, the four song EP, Illojala Till Slutet, delivers a blistering fast and aggressive look at the political and social turmoil found in their native country. But each of the song topics transcend borders. These are concerns that hit home for all of us. “Diognetus” reminds us that it’s too easy to have national pride take away our sensibilities by failing to recognize that all the countries of this earth are our home.… Continued →

New White Collar Sideshow Song - Break On Through (To the Other Side) (Doors cover)

In very much the same fashion as their more recent single, “I Didn’t Come Here To Die”, White Collar Sideshow has released their next single, “Break On Through (To the Other Side)”, a Doors cover set to their own take on it, which is especially enjoyable. A nice southern feel with hard rock mixed in…White Collar, please keep em coming! Did we mention the band just signed with Curtain Call Records? Check out the song below and leave your thoughts as well as some congrats on their new signing!… Continued →

Adam Lohrbach (Homegrown) Leads Bridgelife Worship

I found an interesting, cool news bit I’d like to share with you all today. Adam Lohrbach who played bass and lead vocals for the pop-punk band Homegrown, has been leading worship for Bridgelife Worship here in So Cal for several years. I just caught on to this project recently and was excited to learn of the “Homegrown” connection. I enjoyed albums like “Act Your Age” and “Kings of Pop” as well as their final ep. You can check out The Bridge (Church) out of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.… Continued →

Song of the Day: GS Megaphone - Dream

Take me past familiar waters to a place so deep / it reserves itself for the eyes of those who dream. “Dream” by GS Megaphone communicates the essence of God-as-artist, the One in whom “we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Taken from their album Beautiful World (2003), it is a reminder that God is the source of all creativity. So often our imaginations are caught in a torrent of meaningless distractions, and still, the opportunity for metanoia (Greek term for changing one’s mind) awaits us in and through Christ’s grace.… Continued →

Brolly "Son"

http://https://open.spotify.com/artist/3xpoOiUQYO66hhkFTwoCvr http://www.brollymusic.com http://https://www.facebook.com/brollymusicToday’s song of the day is a brilliant gem from the super talented, yet somewhat unknown and under the radar, Brolly. From the first time I heard Brolly’s ” Hollow Home Rd” EP, I was hooked day 1. His mesmerizing and beautifully crafted songs seem to pull the listener into his world from beginning to end. This amazing and talented songwriter from the great state of California, has 3 EP’s under his belt. Hollow Home Rd. :2012 Wolfe : 2014 Shadow and Light : 2019 The 2018 single “Son”, Brolly’s first new music since the Wolfe EP, Showed the artist’s progression in his short , yet budding career.… Continued →
