Protect Your Heart are on a literal roll with fantastic new material already this year! We’ve gotten “Losing My Mind” and “Run” so far in 2026 and now today they drop “Kings Rd”, an absolute fantastic, road tripping, an endearing so cal adoring new single. This perfect tribute to their beginnings and all that sums up their hometown appeal in the form of an easycore springtime anthem. Check out the music video for “Kings Rd” right here on IVM, below.… Continued →
Static Ultra Drop Riveting New Emo-Pop-Punk Jam, "Tie The Rope"
Static Ultra have just returned after a short break to drop their comeback indie jam “Tie The Rope” which has that old school emo/pop-punk flavor blended with some post-hardcore sensibilities. This is the perfect song for spring time and the coming heat (for those of us on the West Coast, we’re feeling the HEAT right now!). Put on those headphones and jam this at full volume, you won’t be sorry you did! Check out “Tie The Rope” right here below.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Kerith Ravine - A Gentleman's Strange Dream
Midwest emo act Kerith Ravine formed around Akron, OH in 1997 and were active until 2001. In that short time they recorded 2 self-released CD EPs, released a split 7″ with fellow Ohioans Cpt. Nemo, and also released a full-length album through Bulletproof Music (Dear Ephesus, Aleixa, etc.) The band played a fun subset of Midwest emo which had them incorporating strings on one track and screaming on another, all the while holding subtle melodies close.
After Kerith Ravine (name for the brook where OT prophet Elijah took refuge while hiding from Ahab) finished, some of the members then formed Lovedrug, which also contained former members of Eso-Charis.… Continued →

Names Without Numbers - Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Cover + Music Video).
The indie greats - Names Without Numbers, just released their cover of the Tears For Fears classic "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" and have an accompanying music video to go along with it. Check out the video below and make give the song a listen on your favorite digital network now.

Names Without Numbers Channel a Little Tears for Fears
Another example for how 2025 musically just keeps getting better and better. This favorite band of mine NAMES WITHOUT NUMBERS are channeling their inner 80’s child and have covered the classic Tears for Fears staple, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and have released it on all streaming platforms. It’s a tasteful cover and showcases the band’s unforgettable sound and penchant for tackling heartwarming emotional subject matter mixed with heavy nostalgia to create an unforgettable cover track. Once you’re done giving this track a listen please go back and give all their other recent songs a stream/spin/play.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Quayle - The Pretender
Forming first as Spud Puddle, this band from southern California changed their name just prior to the release of their second album. Partly due to confusion with punk band Spudgun, but more so due to a change in styles–away from the pop-punk of their debut, and into alternative/indie rock on the self-titled Quaylealbum, the old band name just didn’t fit anymore.
With a sound that touched on alternative rock, power pop, and just a hint of emo, Quayle wowed listeners with a sound that was both raw and melodic at the same time.… Continued →

REVIEW : The Rocky Valentines - Music On A Shelf
As a (ahem….) 40-something year old punk kid, listening to The Rocky Valentines new full-length “Music On The Shelf” takes me back to my high school and early college days.
Back then, my Sony Discman would have been filled with the sounds of The Get Up Kids, Velocity Girl, New Order, Superchunk and Teenage Fanclub.
I probably would’ve had a home-made mixtape with all those bands floating around on it. And The Rocky Valentines would’ve fit in comfortably.
This record is pure nostalgia for me. It’s part lo-fi-ish guitar pop mixed with equal parts melody and post-punk melancholy.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Grandpa Loves Rhinos - If Death Rolls Dice
This pop-punk duo comprises brothers Seth and Paul Hyde, who are separated by thousands of miles (North Carolina to Hawaii). Seth spearheads the project, with Paul adding the drums. However, Paul spearheads the independent (and non-profit) record label Small Step Records.
While I’ve been aware of GLR from quite some time, I only recently dug into their sound, and incidentally only then discovered that my friend Paul (whom I met at Furnace Fest last year, but had corresponded with before that) was in the band.
I had heard them described as pop-punk, which they certainly are, but it’s a different take on the genre.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Damien Jurado - Frustrated
While this artist is known as a sort of darling in the indie folk scene, his roots are in the Christian punk/emo scene of the Pacific NW in the 90s. With connections to Pedro the Lion, Roadside Monument, Poor Old Lu, etc. Jurado released some 7″ singles on the then-fledgling Christian label Tooth and Nail Records. Even his debut was a co-release with Tooth and Nail and SubPop, the latter a connection that came through his friend Jeremy Enigk of Sunny Day Real Estate.
Apart from some of his early punk-leaning projects, Jurado has not been one to proclaim faith through his music, opting instead to tell stories both real and fictional.… Continued →

Watashi Wa and Lakes Vinyl Available For Order Now
I have some exciting news. Two different labels are releasing Watashi Wa and Lakes vinyl. Lakes if you were unaware, was the band that continued on the Watashi Wa legacy after they first broke up including lead vocalist Seth Roberts. Lakes released an EP in 2005 called “Photographs” that dropped in The Militia Group originally. The re-release is being put out by Sing Along Records right here (while you’re there make sure to check out the Long Since Forgotten vinyl). In addition the label Lost In Ohio are releasing the much loved and critically acclaimed Watashi Wa album “The Love of Life” on vinyl for the first time and you can preorder here.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Juliana Theory - To the Tune of 5,000 Screaming Children
There was a lot of anticipation about this band before they ever released one song. Founder/vocalist Brett Detar had been in Zao, playing on one of their most popular albums, Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest, as well as the unique and creative–and tragically underrated/unheard–emo-core band Pensive before that. With The Juliana Theory, Detar, along with bandmates Neil Hebrank (drums), Chad Alan (bass), Joshua Fiedler (guitars), and Joshua Kisker (guitars) took emo in a more accessible direction.
The band released four full-length albums between 1999 and 2006, along with a few live recordings, EPs, and the seminal split release with Dawson High.… Continued →

Indie Vision Music Statement and Reels
There has been an ongoing silence on the latest happenings in the Christian music realm and it’s not by accident, it’s pure engineering. So much so that we’ve decided (well me actually) to amp up the fun by diving head first into the world of “Reels” and short streaming clips as evidenced by some recent posts on Instagram and Facebook. While not as cutting edge and China-centric as say TikTok or as private as a Snap (not that kind of private and also, do people still use this app?),… Continued →

Noise Ratchet Return With "Who We Are"
In completely unexpected news, Noise Ratchet have returned with a NEW (demo) song called “Who We Are” and it sounds darn near perfect song wise for 2025 but also rides on that classic 00’s emo/pop-punk train alongside other classic bands like Saosin, Thrice, Story of the Year, The Used, and Letter Kills. I hope more music like this is on the way soon. Welcome back! Listen to the song below.… Continued →

Shepherd Bridge Release "Daylight"
Shepherd Bridge is a project I found last year sometime through Instagram while browsing and it just struck me, the music and message that is. They just released a brand new song today titled “Daylight”. Like the first single “Armor” which dropped late last year, the music takes you on a ride with its driving guitars, raw but soaring vocals that crescendo all at once with a steady blast of melody and unfiltered emotion. Give this track and “Armor” a listen today. New single can be found below or on your favorite digital networks.… Continued →

The Julies Release New Single
The Julies are back after just 2 short years with another astounding, beautiful single. The song is titled “The Heartbreak Life” and shows the band at their absolute best musically (so far). Ever since this band reunited and reappeared on the music scene, there was just something special about not only them as a collective unit but in the music as well. Check out the single below, on Bandcamp and digital networks now.… Continued →

Sally Grayson's new single benefits the suffering
Sally Grayson has a new single out as of this week. The American singer-songwriter, living in Germany, has fronted both Black Swift and Standbye in the indie rock field but more recently has turned to dark alternative country. She released a brilliant album called The Darkness in Me (reviewed here).
Written from a place of grief and deep empathy, Grayson’s new single “The Empty Place” is a cinematic and haunting tribute to the suffering of Palestinians. Blending intimate, close-mic vocals with walls of atmospheric, distorted guitars and mournful synths, the song evokes the emotional weight of loss and displacement with raw beauty.… Continued →
Anberlin to Tour With The Almost and Watashi Wa This Summer!
Anberlin have just announced a very special tour commemorating 20 years of “Never Take Friendship Personal” this summer beginning July 31st in Jacksonville, FL. and wrapping up on August 17th in Indianapolis, with The Almost and Watashi Wa! Sounds tasty. It like this is mostly east coast and a few spot midwest dates so I’m guessing they’ll announce more dates for more states soon. West Coast needs this. View the flyer for this tour, below. Are any of you looking forward to this tour?

Plead The Widow's Cause Release Heavy and Hopeful New Spirit Filled Hardcore Album
New Jersey based spirit filled post-hardcore band – Plead The Widow’s Cause, just released their brand new full length record titled “(Silver Glass Stare)”. The title of record is actually an excerpt from “The Lord of The Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien. This is a heavy and metallic, spirit filled, post-hardcore, sometimes melodic, bundle of joy. This is a literal step up from the last record “Pain Split” and shows a band not afraid to stretch out their wings and experiment a little but at the same time drawing on past influences and classic hardcore sounds as well as some screamo 00’s tendencies.… Continued →
Anberlin Teases New Music
Anberlin have released a series of video clips over on their Instagram/Facebook pages with what sounds like new versions of songs off “Never Take Friendship Personal” and a date of 3/21. A video was just posted today with a clip of Matty Mullins (current lead singer of Anberlin and singer for Memphis May Fire) talking about re-recording “Paperthin Hymn” and that same date listed again. So either we are getting a re-recording of Paperthin Hymn with Matty on Friday or a whole album re-recording is dropping that same date.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Exeter Flud - Your December
The late, great Exeter Flud was an alternative rock from the Atlanta area, whose music danced around indie rock, emo, and shoegaze, but never fully committed to any of those. It’s not too surprising that the band had formal connections to other Georgia and Florida bands like Dear Ephesus, My Hotel Year, Vivian, and more.
The roots of Exeter Flud were in Remnant, who released one brilliant 7″ single in 1995, “The Cloud/Dirge.” The songs were recorded while they were still in high school, and engineered by the masterful J.C.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Royal - Beautiful
I love the old playful quote about the difference between knowledge and wisdom:
Knowledge is knowing Frankenstein isn’t the monster.
Wisdom is knowing Frankenstein is the monster!
A similar thought could be applied to Norwegian band Royal:
Knowledge is knowing Royal isn’t punk.
Wisdom is know Royal is punk.
If punk is about shedding notions of convention and rules, then Royal was as punk as they come. Royal blended genres like chefs blend fancy soups. They were simultaneously indie rock, jazz, post-hardcore, emo . . .… Continued →

R.I.P. Joel Metzger, ex-Roadside Monument
We are grieving today with our friends in Roadside Monument and fans of the indie rock innovators. This sad news came from the camp yesterday (Jan. 9, 2025):
“We are sad to say that our friend and band mate, Joel Metzger passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday. Joel played drums on the My Life is Green 7” and the Beside This Brief Hexagonal album as well as playing with Damien Jurado on a few of his projects. He went on to become an amazing barber / hair stylist, eventually opening his own barber shop.… Continued →

Alandria - Turn Back Time (New Song)
Emotionally charged Pop-Punk act – Alandria, just released their brand new single titled “Turn Back Time” (no, it’s not a Cher cover) a week ago and it absolutely rules and I know you’ll all feel the same way upon giving this a listen. Orion Walsh Releases "Walking Through The Forest"
Orion Walsh’s return to the music scene with “Walking Through The Forest” promises a soul-stirring experience, celebrating one of the most compelling albums of his career and absolute personal favorite of mine. Releasing on October 31, 2024, via Fair Vaux, Walsh’s 7th studio album takes listeners on an introspective journey, blending lo-fi folk and emo undertones into a deeply evocative collection. Walsh, a celebrated singer-songwriter from Lincoln, Nebraska, draws on vivid, nostalgic imagery, crafted over a 6 week tour across the UK and Europe to reflect on life’s cyclic journey of breaking and healing.… Continued →

Song of The Day: Capital Lights - Honey Don't Jump
Today’s Song of The Day comes from a band called “Capital Lights”, which are little heard of this day and age and whose last album released all the way back in 2012. That was 12 years ago, can you believe it? This band released 2 fantastic albums. While some people didn’t find as much enjoyment in the last album (final?), I certainly did. One of the highlights (there are plenty) for me off that record was “Honey Don’t Jump”. With lyrics about pulling someone from the brink of depression only to show them God’s love, grace, and ultimately, salvation in him.… Continued →
