Manafest and Famous Last Words announce new Tour
The hard rock rapper Manafest and the post-hardcore/metalcore band Famous Last Words have announced they are going on a East Coast tour together. The two are very different style wise: Manafest started as just a rapper, with a nu-metal tinge, and seems to be returning to his roots with his new single “Stones”. Famous Last Words on the other hand, are a post-hardcore/metalcore band that sounds like Blessthefall in a sense. Anyways this will be an interesting tour one way or another.

Introducing: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh (GFM)
I am always on the lookout for new bands to listen to. Sometimes it feels like an eternity passes between finding one new band and the next, but then again, that could also be because I can be a little picky about my music. In those rare instances when I DO manage to find a new band, I’m just happy or excited I found something new to add to my music library. Still, there are those even rarer instances yet, where I’m every bit as eager and excited to let others know about these bands as well because I think they’ve really got something special and I’m eager to see how God uses them in the future.… Continued →

Tourniquet performing at Exodo Fest w/ New Lineup
The beloved thrash metal band, Tourniquet has been working on a new album for the last year or so, with only the lineup of founder Ted Kirkpatrick (drums) and longtime member Aaron Guerra (guitars). The band has been set to play Exodo Fest for awhile, it was just unknown about the lineup. Until recently. On March 4, 2017, the band announced they would be playing with Guitarist Jamey Henn, Bassist Andy Robbins (formerly of Holy Soldier), and Vocalist Jason Robison (Wrath of Typhon). Tourniquet will be playing with bands such as Broken Flesh, Impending Doom, Grave Robber and Abated Mass of Flesh.… Continued →
Fair Announces New Album?
On April Fool’s Day, Fair announced a new album entitled “Luncheons and Wagons” to be released on July 8th, 2017. Naturally, skepticism on the legitimacy of this news is high. However, Fair’s Facebook page has been quite active the past few weeks. Now that we’re a few days into April, there has been no mention whether the announcement was indeed an April Fool’s joke. Many readers will remember Copeland announced they would be returning with a new record on April 1st, 2014. Conversely, July 8th, 2017 is a Saturday, which deviates from the standard record release day on Friday.… Continued →

Free Album Download from David Curtis
This past September, David Curtis (ex Run Kid Run) released his most recent album, One Voice. I’m only about halfway through it right now, but it is one great worship album, and David has rather generously made it a free download for a limited time on his bandcamp page, where you can also find his other releases as well. I have to recommend downloading this, it really sounds great. Get some at his bandcamp and post your thoughts!… Continued →
REVIEW : Pleading Guilty - Defacto
In a universe where everybody and their grandmother has a punk band, its refreshing to hear a new band that stands out. This particular band is Pleading guilty and from the first track they immediately stand out above the crowd.
This punk rock foursome hail from colorado and as a fellow Colorado resident I was very involved in the scene during the late 90s. We had some great punk bands but sadly only a handful of christian bands. Of course the most well known band was Five iron frenzy and Pleading guilty would have fit in nicely alongside them in the scene during the late 90s.… Continued →
The Business of Streaming and the After Effects of a Digital Marketplace
A really great article on the current explosion of the digital streaming marketplace and it’s subsequent takeover of standard music purchases can be read here (Billboard Article). It is interesting how much things have changed in the past decade and half. I remember the times of the pirates like Napster, Morpheus, Kazaa, etc. and how they threatened to undermine popular music. Then digital stores started popping up like iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, Amazon, Google Play, and many more. With each new incarnation of digital distribution there have been the critics who have tried to signal “the end is near” for popular music and yet time and time again they’ve been proven wrong.… Continued →

Throwback Review 6: Well-Wisher - Counselor
It’s that time of the week – Throwback Thursday! Today’s band showed a lot of promise but personal differences, growing up, and moving apart ultimately was the band’s demise. Well-Wisher stands as a great nod to what could have been.
History
Counselor was a melodic hardcore band with pop-punk and indie elements based out of Muskegon, MI. that released music during 2012 and 2013. A few singles preceded Well-Wisher and a fully EP followed. However, the latter suffers from incredibly poor production and mixing that sadly ruins the listening experience.… Continued →

Heath McNease x Keyes - Rapper
Heath McNease has released a video for his new song “Rapper” featuring Keyes (otherwise known as Heir Jordan). The press release reads:
“In the lead up to his new EP featuring Propaganda, J Givens, Derek Minor and more, Heath McNease partnered with Keyes (aka Heir Jordan) to drop a loosie that takes a satirical look at what it is to be a rapper Over a gritty beat from producer Wonderlust, both rappers dole out stern warnings about the dangers of getting to know an emcee. The video was shot and directed by Heath, Jordan and Chris Pochiba.”… Continued →
Enter the Underground: Hymns of the Blackest Light
As a two year anniversary for the forum The Blackest Light, DC Mills (Vials of Wrath) helped all the musician members release a compilation for the group. You’ll see a bunch of bands you may have heard of represented: O, Majestic Winter, Corpse, Vials of Wrath, or maybe Blood Thirsty. Showcasing a variety of distribution centers, these bands have been on Vision of God Records, SkyBurnsBlack Records, Sanctus Gladius Records, and Vociferator Entertainment. This compilation features a fair amount of current Christian black metal, death metal, and grindcore, and offers some insight in what the underground has to offer.… Continued →

Introducing: Silent Culture
New Jersey isn’t one of the biggest states in the country, in fact it’s one of the smaller ones. Despite that, it’s still large enough, in it’s own right, to inspire surprise that there aren’t more Christian musicians here who are willing and able to take their gifting beyond the four walls of the church. However, inasmuch as NJ may lack Christian bands and artists in quantity, it’s something we certainly make up for in quality.
In the southern part of our state, in a town called Vineland, there is a band called Silent Culture.… Continued →
The Showdown streams live acoustic video
The southern metal band, The Showdown has not announced that they are back together, but they did do live stream where they played an acoustic song. The band started years ago in 1999 as 2450, but didn’t become The Showdown until 2003. They released four albums, two through Mono vs. Stereo and two through Solid State Records. The band may be hinting at a reunion, but expect an original lineup. Members Patrick Judge and Jeremiah Scott are probably really busy with Demon Hunter and probably won’t be able to perform.… Continued →
Introducing: Lost Things
Hailing for Sacramento, Lost Things has emerged to play some fresh post-rock/hardcore. These guys have songs that span influences from Being as an Ocean and Oh Sleeper to Jesus Culture (Consumed-era) and Emery, maybe with a slight Take It Back! influence in the faster songs. The album artwork seems to allude to a highly political punk attitude however the lyrics convey a message of seeking truth and dealing with personal problems.
