Song of the Day: Hopesfall - Shines Through

Hopesfall heralds from Charlotte, NC where I used to live. This screamo was pretty popular at the time & this tune has been a fave of mine over the years. Their style changed & I think most got into them after the Frailty record released. Check out these lyrics: Love broke me Trials are in vain I press on not knowing what there is to gain In all that I’ve failed I have come to realize Your truth shines through the pain Enjoy. Song of the Day: Abide In Me - Deer, Oh Dear

Abide in Me is one of those early screamo bands I found out about from RadioU’s metal show hoster by Jaddeus Dempsey. He had a plethora of bands I have never heard of before & this is one of them. This was the era of Myspace & Purevolume which I am pretty sure the band had pages on. It appears the band was from Louisiana per perusing Facebook & Twitter. Seems to be the same band as they call themselves spirit filled hardcore.  Check em out.… Continued →

Fallstar - Timebender & The Jet Engine (Official Music Video)

Fallstar has dropped 2 new songs in the past couple weeks and they rule. The latest song titled “Timebender & The Jet Engine” has a music video tied to it and once you watch it, the song becomes the video and vice versa. Go check it out below this message and watch some great Godzilla stomping metal(core) action. New album “Sacred Mirrors” out July 14th on Facedown Records.… Continued →

Dismissed Take The Good With The Bad for 19 Years

It’s hard to believe that 19 years have passed since a young 24 year old Brandon connected with a band of youngsters that nobody outside of our very small small population of Orange/San Diego counties had heard. I remember eating some tasty tex-mex food at Chevy’s (remember that place?) here in Laguna Niguel, CA. back in early 2003 and through the talking noise of fellow patrons with full bellies of perfectly formed machine made tortillas, I discussed the future of IVM and a band, Dismissed. It changed my life, quite literally.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Fable - Foreshadowing the Reincarnate

One of the very few true “screamo” bands in the Christian scene (not just melodic hardcore/emo-core), Fable only released 6 songs in their entire career–4 on their 7″ Give Us the Night (through the legendary Takehold Records), 1 on the hardcore compilation A Testament to Broken Walls, and 1 on a split with secular screamo band Mara’akate. Band members were only 15 when they started playing together in their hometown of Holland, MI, but they quickly made a huge impact in the underground scene. Unfortunately they fizzled out too quickly and left us with only these 6 songs.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Subseven - Emotion

Subseven was a rock (some say emo/screamo) band from Oklahoma that signed with Flicker Records in 2003. The band would release “Subseven: The Ep” and the full length “Free to Conquer” before calling it a day in 2005. This Song of the Day, “Emotion”, hits hard and fast with a chorus sure to stay in your head all day. Don’t miss it!… Continued →

Song of the Day: Beloved (US) - Like a Song (U2 Cover)

Beloved (US) released this absolutely flawless cover of U2’s classic song, “Like a Song”, last month. It is without a doubt, one of my favorite cover songs by an artist we write about and quite simply one of the best songs of 2020. To be honest, I wasn’t as familiar with this U2 song as much as their other more famous tracks but nonetheless the band put their own unique spin on it and blew it out of the water. It’s not only lyrically poignant but the sound quality of this one song is on par with anything a major label artist would release in 2020.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Spoken - Promise

I loved Spoken from the moment their 3rd record dropped “Echoes of the Spirit Still Dwell”. The minute I heard this song, “Promise”, from the album “Moment of Imperfect Clarity”, I couldn’t shake my Spoken fandom. This band and their music came out at the perfect time post-9/11. It was uplifting, positive, and the songs were incredibly addictive in melodies. The Used, Story of the Year, Senses Fail, and Blindside all would have made perfect tour mates during this time period. The song “Promise” was really an inspirational song, one that felt like a warm pat on the back and an embrace when you feel broken and miserable.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Lights for Nero - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Weapons Inspectors

Sadly, I only got to attend Cornerstone Festival once. I planned out my schedule in advance: hardcore here, punk rock there, metal over here, all sprinkled with alternative, indie rock, and goth too. If you’ve ever been to the festival, you’ll remember the countless numbers of flyers and leaflets for shows happening that week. One of the most mysterious and interesting was for a band I’d never heard of called Lights for Nero. Although I knew next to nothing about them, that flyer convinced me that I didn’t need to be anywhere else that afternoon.… Continued →

REVIEW : Emery - Eve

(Actual album cover in review. Edited Cover provided by our friends at JesusFreakHideout ) The southern emo/screamo/rock/alternative/however you decide to classify them boys have returned after three years from their last full length release. You’ve read the controversy, you’ve seen it, and so what is there to say about this album? Well, a lot. “Is This The Real Life” sets the general tone of Eve; and that is mellow and thoughtful. The lyrics of the song at first seem to be rather ambiguous in form of stream-thought.… Continued →

Emery Return With New Album and Songs, Drop Controversial New Album Cover

If you didn’t catch the firestorm of controversy yesterday regarding the new album cover by Emery for their new release “EVE” then you might just have been living under a rock. A lot of various opinions were unleashed as well angry remarks, resentment, confusion, and a whole bunch of feuding people over just what the “artistic” intention is. Kyle Pavone of We Came As Romans Passes Away at 28 Years Old

I come with sad news today. A band IVM has written quite a bit about over the past 10+ years, We Came As Romans, has lost a cherished member, Kyle Pavone. Kyle passed away yesterday at the young age of 28. Details of his passing are not yet available and it really isn’t important at this time. What is important is that we all send our condolences to the family of Kyle and band mates left behind. I pray that God will grant all of those left behind peace, hope, and understanding during this difficult time.… Continued →
