Is There a Secret MxPx Vinyl in the Works?

Hey look who’s On the Cover of IVM! Is there a Secret Weapon of vinyl proportions in the works? Is it enough to give us a Panic, maybe get us up to that Ever Passing Moment? I certainly hope these guys aren’t Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo because we could all use a heavy dose of a Punk Rawk Show in our lives. Now I certainly Heard That Sound and am assured that this is a Plan Within Plans and that Tomorrow is Another Day.… Continued →

MxPx - They

MxPx released the political anthem “They” last week. The song is available for free download if you sign up for their mailing list. The band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Life in General” in which they re-recorded and re-released the album a few months back for free. Do any of you have special memories of this album/time period? Next year is the band’s 25th anniversary and they already have some big plans in store. Prepared to be amazed. Continued →

MxPx - Doing Time

Today’s Video Flashback is of classic MxPx track “Doing Time” off the “Life In General” album (1996/Tooth & Nail Records). It’s amazing to think that Life in General just turned 20 last month. So crazy how fast time flies. Speaking of MxPx, they recently released a “Live” film from their Observatory shows in 2015 and the band has a rare single that was part of their campaign for the live film that you can hear below.… Continued →

Where Have All the Teachers Gone?

A few weeks ago I was browsing through the used section of my local record store and was thrilled to see a whole bunch of old school Christian “punk” CDs. For $3 or $4 each, I got albums by The Insyderz, Twothirtyeight, Value-Pac, Ill Harmonics, and Pedro the Lion. Listening to each of these compelled me to pull out other records that I’ve had for years: Five Iron Frenzy, The OC Supertones, MxPx, Brave Saint Saturn, and more. Even though this music was once the only stuff I ever listened to, it had been a while since I’ve really dug into it, and one thing shocked me as I started jamming out to them again today.… Continued →

Metaphysical Monday: Life in General

Next in our series of “Classic Christian Albums” is an MxPx masterpiece.  “Life in General” was the crowning achievement for Christian punk, in my humble (but very correct) opinion.  MxPx owns the title as kings of Christian punk and this album is their zenith. My earliest memories of anything related to MxPx were browsing through my local Christian Bookstore when I was only 13.  I had a pretty rad Christian Bookstore that would let you sample CDs in little listening booths with CD players.  They also had an aisle of the craziest assortment of uber-underground metal, hardcore, punk and ska CDs.  … Continued →

Mxpx

Today’s Video Flashback is from Mxpx. I am featuring two songs/videos by them, one in 1995 “Teenage Politics” (From ‘Teenage Politics’ Tooth & Nail Records), and the other 2005 “Heard That Sound” (From ‘Panic’ Side One Dummy Records). I first got into this band in 1994 with their Pokinatcha album after some random dude recommend that I check out the cd at a Christian bookstore when I was in high school. I have followed them through each subsequent release over the years and have seen them multiple times live.… Continued →
