Terra Firma was a regional metallic hardcore outfit from Butler PA (Greater Pittsburgh area) and was active from 1997-2004. I first came into contact with the band while interacting with member Travis Furman on the Brutal Christian Music Message Board (anyone old enough to remember message boards?)
They released one very good album called Silence Cries in 2000. The CD was released independently and not widely distributed. The band’s style was rooted in hardcore, but will metallic edges, not too unlike Focal Point, FewLeftStanding, and Falling Cycle where there was a clear metallic influence without going full-blown into metalcore.
“Shatter the Silence” is the opening track from the album and truly sets the tone for what follows. The track deals with the topic of deadly violence, looking through the twofold lens of Christian martyrs and the Holocaust. The song title is a reference to the need to confront such atrocities rather than keeping them hidden or silent.
Fortunately, there are still physical copies of the album available online, and a digital version was released in 2016, and available from Bandcamp in a “name your price” format. Sadly, one of the band members, Neil, passed away in 2020 from a severe asthma attack. Say a prayer for the family members and friends if you have a moment.
