Song of the Day: Eyes of the Defiled - Buried as Saints

Eyes of the Defiled was a deathcore band (death metal + metalcore) from Maryland. Information about the band is scarce, but it appears that they formed in the early 2010s, putting out their debut EP in 2012 before signing with Vision of God Records, for 2016’s Distant Tellings album. They were also involved in almost every installment of the Christian Deathcore compilations on Bandcamp. The band’s sound focused on traditional deathcore–heavy riffs, often in a breakdown style, the occasional melodic lead guitar, and lots of pig squeal-type vocals that are associated with the genre.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Proclaim the Sky - The Battle Within

This deathcore band is comprised of 2 friends from high school. Hailing from Indiana, I have had the privilege to talk with Ryan Miller for the show I produce on Ripper Radio. This song also reminds me of the metalcore band Context whom I saw live a couple years ago. Listen to this song loud and follow this band as they are working on releasing the full length Over Goshen. Some of the lyrics reference 1 John 1:9. Continued →

Song of the Day: Endless Sacrifice - Endless Sacrifice

Endless Sacrifice is a brutal death metal band from Argentina. The project formed in 2009, and has only had one constant member–Diego Barrera on vocals, guitar and songwriting duties. Carlos from Antidemon has provided guest vocals occasionally as well. With only one constant member, the ‘band’ has more or less remained a studio project. Nonetheless, add Endless Sacrifice to the long list of quality, brutally heavy bands from South America. Their debut, Dominio Total was released in 2016 on two different Latin American independent labels: Bolivia’s Vampire Records and Mexico’s Warriors Records before finally seeing a U.S.… Continued →

With Blood Comes Cleansing, Return?

I’m telling you, 2023 is going to be an EPIC year for band reunions, I just know it. The next band to announce a return is WITH BLOOD COMES CLEANSING. They have launched an Instagram account under @wbccofficial and are teasing some live shows in 2023. They also have pressed their classic album “Golgotha” on Vinyl in honor of its 15th anniversary and well, it sold out in under 5 minutes!! Wow! Make sure to follow them on Instagram or other social media if you can find the accounts and search up on whether they re-press more copies.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Fall of Leviathan - Jesus Didn't Live the American Dream

Good luck on finding much on this rarity. I believe from what I remember they were featured on Radiou’s metal show many years ago. They seem to be of an early metalcore/deathcore variety & were from Reno, Nevada. Their Myspace page has them going to Joshuafest back in 2010 & ReverbNation has a demo of another of their songs. This song’s lyrics sounds to be close to a worship song as you can hear them screaming He died for us circa the 1:30 mark & some spoken circa the 3:15 mark.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Horsemen of the Apocalypse - Body of Christ

This 5-piece band from Norwalk, CA started as a metalcore band but morphed into something heavier and more technical with an interesting mix of death metal, grindcore, and the odd jazz passage. The band only released two demos. The first was a 5-song tape called “Soldiers of the Cross.” In 2006 they released their more known, somewhat ironically titled “Death Gospel” (Gospel set to death metal, get it?) cassette, featuring 4 songs. Then the band was never to be heard of again. However, just this year an independent secular metal label from Riverside has re-released the demo as a cassette-only release, with three bonus tracks.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : New Band Spotlight: Voluntary Mortification

While I’d been hearing their name pop up here and there on the internet, I was fully introduced to Voluntary Mortification’s music when I caught them opening for As Lions and Lambs here in Indianapolis. Shortly after that press manager, Mason Beard got in touch to request an interview. I got the lowdown on all things Voluntary Mortification, including the origins of that interesting band name, when I caught up with guitarist Jacob Kanclerz, and vocalist Conner Luttig. IVM: Tell me a little about the band name.Continued →

REVIEW : Shadow Puncher - All Glory to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords Part II

I’ve reviewed 3 different releases from Shadow Puncher (for 2 different publications), and one of the things I’ve noticed is the diversity of sounds and influences on each project. While the one-man band from Norway functions within the death metal genre, each release has a different feel. The earliest material had a strong thrash influence, then moved into a djent-heavy sound. This EP is the first to utilise keyboards in a prominent way, thus adding a progressive element. After a 1-minute ambient keyboard intro, “One End of Heaven” rips into the speakers with brutal rhythms, blastbeats and plenty of time changes.… Continued →

Introducing: Cardiac Rupture

This heavy as heck deathcore band, Cardiac Rupture, just dropped their new lyric video for “December Selection” which you can check out below. The band’s new ep “The Creator’s Hand” is out on April 12th. If you’re into heavy music with lots of growling and pig squeals, then this is the band for you. I’m telling you, my speakers almost caught fire listening to this song. Thanks Branden Cook for the tip.… Continued →

REVIEW : Not Beneath - Memento Mori

Not Beneath is an exciting new project featuring ex-members of Narcissus, Outcry, North Meadow Park, and Vessel. In 2018 those names might not mean very much but if you were into hardcore/metalcore in the late 90s or early 00s, you’ll recognize them for sure. Memento Mori ventures into new territory though, pushing for a death metal vibe with progressive leanings at times, and occasionally some touches of –core. Having said all that, it’s a very rewarding listen. It caught my ear upon first listen, and almost immediately I wanted to listen again—lots of layers of sound, melodic and harmonic textures, and heavy as crap!… Continued →

WhatDrivesTheWeak Reunites and Signs to Sancrosanct Records

The melodic deathcore band, WhatDrivesTheWeak, has reunited and signed to Sancrosanct Records. The band originally formed in 2008 and put out a full album, Iniquities in 2012. The band went on indefinite hiatus in 2014 and formed Rogue Defector, a progressive deathcore band. The band has reunited and is working on a new material! If this band sounds familiar, it might be because they were apart of the first two Christian Deathcore compilations. Check out their track, “Destroyer”, below! Continued →

My Place Was Taken joins Rottweiler Records

The Mexican deathcore band My Place Was Taken has joined the roster of Rottweiler Records. The band formed in 2014 with Guitarist Abraham Barberi and Vocalist Jesus Salas. They came together to see if they could help change the drug, alcohol and violent part of their home town, Matamoros, Mexico: the metal scene. Broken Flesh adds on former Obliteration/Death List Guitarist

Broken Flesh has decided to add on Death List and Obliteration Guitarist Bryan Nikkel as a new Bassist. The band went through some lineup struggles last year, with the departure of brother Jacob and Josh Mathes, the band’s vocalist and bassist, and Guitarist Dakota Whiteside. The band would then add on Bassist Kyle Fitzgerald. The band would announce that Kyle was departing from the band due to family reasons. They would then add on Bryan Nikkel, who had played with founding Guitarist and Vocalist Kevin Tubby in Death List and Obliteration.… Continued →
