This band formed from a church worship band. They were one of the first modern rock worship bands I think. They had a tight modern rock sound & had songs on Christian edgier radio stations including Ride, Undiscovered. They have since changed their name to The Listening. Gabe Wilson has worked with many musical endeavors over the years also. These lyrics are awesome! Rap music in the early 90s was making huge breakthroughs into both mainstream pop music and Gospel music, all the while splintering into dozens of subgenres: gangsta rap, new jack swing, Miami bass, among the most prominent. Tulsa locals D.O.C., AKA Disciples of Christ were fluent in the Philadelphia-based new jack swing sound, a combination of hip-hop, urban contemporary pop, and R&B/soul sounds. Gametime just released their brand new song titled “Just Start” and it reminds me of all the best parts of Pop-Punk without sounding cheesy, derivative, and bland. Who besides me think covers can be awesome? Well MF did a great cover of ‘Til Tuesday’s classic song. Sydney has a unique voice & it does carry throughout this song. I listened to their Hang out EP for hours as a kid. I loved the shoegazing aspects of fuzz from MF & Starflyer. Tooth & Nail were putting out very different music sounds from the rest of the “Christian” market back then & I was fully on board. There are rumblings in the Ghoti Hook camp that could spell something new from the band which would be their first “official” reunion of the band members since 2002. [Lyric Video below] This really great young new group called THE YOUNG ESCAPE, has been drawing more attention online lately and through strong word of mouth which has led to their recent signing with BEC Recordings and a brand new song called “Turning My Heart”. Upon first listen to this wonderfully made new indie-pop-rock song, you are transported out of your musically lackluster and boring, bland same old song existence. There is a certain familiarity here and they wouldn’t be without praise from radio/media but something about this song strikes me as fresh.… Continued →

Forever Moon was a modern rock band that released an EP & full length before disbanding from what I gather. I bought the EP, but now it runs for around $100 from what I’ve seen. They were reminiscent of the early 2000s  era that “Christian” rock  stations played on edgier stations with rock shows. Win You Over was their other main song.   … Continued →

Another awesome blast from the past punk rock band called – Shorthanded, have returned and will grace our ears with their musical presence very soon. The band have been recording new stuff at The Blasting Room in Colorado and the songs will be available in the coming months. Craig’s Brother released their fantastic new album titled “Easily Won, Rarely Deserved” just last week and it is already reaching countless numbers of punk rock fans the world over and garnering very favorable reviews. I enjoy so many of the songs off the new album and find it extremely difficult to skip any of them. This is just one of the many good ones that appear on this latest full length album. Idle Achiever are once again back at it and “Oxygenate” certainly doesn’t disappoint. Their music defies genre classification and they really are playing in a league of their own but not so different from any likeable band you’d hear thrust in front of you. The Awful Truth–the best band that (almost) never was! In the late 80s I was huge into King’s X and what would soon become known as the “Houston sound.” It was part progressive metal, part groove, part rock, and lots of harmonies thrown in. I’d started hearing about this new band (at the time) called The Awful Truth, who had recorded their debut album for mainstream Metal Blade Records, and sadly broke up before it even came out. Dodavahu reminds many of the funk groovy alt-rock of DighayZoose, Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus vein. I can see a little why as they remind me of Elder & a few others from the early 90s alt rock daze.  Their stuff can be hard to find , but appears a band member added some to his SoundCloud page. This band seems to hearken from Newark, Ohio & this song was from their last release Ascension. They seem to have a post hardcore sound along w/ maybe nu-metal as you can hear some scratching. Heavy, old school hardcore punk band named Dispraised are back with a double album release on one 12″ Vinyl Records through new label upstart – Coleiosis Records. This heavy hitting band has had a couple songs land on the billboard Christian Radio charts during the past year or so and it’s amazing to see them grow.
