Introducing: AsFireFalls

Dont ask how I came to find these guys, because the truth is, I still have no idea. Nevertheless there were certain things said if them that drew my interest and I was happy it did. AsFireFalls is a hard rock/techno/metal band from Boise, Idaho. The 4-piece is currently independent, but strike me as the type that could get snapped up by a fortunate label out there somewhere. So, look em up on Facebook, spotify, amazon, Instagram…whichever social media site we’re all clamoring off to these days and follow em.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Benjamin Hamilton - heartbroken.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t really know anything about Benjamin Hamilton, I just stumbled across “heartbroken.” while I was searching for new music on Spotify this weekend. I saw that The Good Christian Music Blog had playlisted some of his previous songs and figured it was worth checking out and threw his new single into my playlist. Well, it ended up being one of those songs where every time it would come up in shuffle I would have to stop what I’m doing and pull out my phone to see what I was listening to.… Continued →

Release Recap - July 2019: Rock & Metal Edition

Last night I decided I would skip my regularly scheduled Song of the Day post in favor of a monthly recap post. As it turns out though rock is far from dead and my recap post end up being entirely rock and metal releases. Ain’t nothing wrong with that right!? The month started off a pair of new singles from Sweden. After 8 years of silence, Blindside returned with a new song titled “Gravedigger” and Narnia dropped their second single off their upcoming album From Darkness to Light due out August 2nd.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Altar Boys - You Are Loved

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this is one of the greatest songs our scene has ever produced! It gets straight to the heart of what it’s all about: “Hey I’m talkin’ to you/Yeah, I’m trying to get through/God cares about you more than think . . . You are loved! You are loved!” It was the first song I ever heard from the Altar Boys, in the late 80s. Ironically, it was on a metal compilation where I first heard them. Though the song is nowhere near metal, it has that late 80s post-punk/power pop sound from SoCal that has loads of energy.… Continued →

Furnace Fest Returns For Huge Event in 2020

It appears that the much loved FURNACE FEST is BACK! After over a decade away, the festival will return with a huge lineup in September of 2020. This was an enormous festival back in the day that featured some of the most loved and adored bands. Imagine that dream lineup of your favorite bands from the late 90’s and early 00’s and that sums up this fest back in the day. The fest was originally started in part by Chad Johnson of Slacker 66 and Takehold Records (and later T&N).… Continued →

Song of The Day: Craig's Brother - Who Am I?

We all find that special album, the initial attraction which binds the listener to a band from the get go. For me, that first album “Homecoming” by Craig’s Brother was just that, an alluring piece of work that had me fascinated from day one. Tooth & Nail released this album in 1998, nearly 21 years ago. It wasn’t exactly a “huge” hit but sure did knock us all in the chest with powerful guitar heavy punk rock and harmonies you can’t get out of your head.… Continued →

Song of the Day: 2Minute Minor - Bottom Feeder

If you’ve been following hardcore at all in the last 5 years, you probably already know about this Chicago “positive hardcore” band. Reflecting a PMA approach to lyrics, which includes things like unity in diversity, straight edge, veganism, and faith, the band churn out revivalist true school hardcore punk classics with great fecundity. This short track’s opening riff reminds me of the glory days of Descendents, and yet vocalist Wiley Willis seems to be drawing inspiration from H.R. of Bad Brains. Check it out and let me know what you think.… Continued →

Skillet Releases Music Video for "Legendary"

Skillet has release a music video for their single, “Legendary”, which will appear on the band’s upcoming release, “Victorious”, which is set to release August 2nd on Atlantic Records. This particular song is a very good representation of what you can expect from the new album with some tracks heavier, some as heavy, and others mellower. You take the average of all of the varied intensities/styles and you’d get this particular song. I’ll be posting a review on this album in the near future, so stay tuned for that, but after having heard it, I’m really looking forward to picking it up.… Continued →
