Velvet Blue Music Releases Rare Underground Album by Jason Martin and Ronnie Martin as Morella's Forest 1988

Velvet Blue Music shakes off the dust off this extremely rare, underground album by Jason Martin and Ronnie Martin, two extremely talented and legendary music makers who’ve blessed our ears with unforgettable music for over 30 years now. Find out what the members of Starflyer 59 and Joy Electric were doing pre-their famous main projects and back in the late 1980’s (during that Dance House Children time period or before). The original name for the project was “Morella’s Forest” but since the project got shelved, their fellow friends in the scene took that name and ran with it.… Continued →

Author Return With On An On

A band we’ve discussed right here at IVM quite a bit in the past, have returned with a new single titled “On An On”. That band is Author and this is their new song. You can download/stream/purchase right here on their bandcamp page. This indie pop-rock song is the perfect song for our oncoming HOT summer sure to topple even the most cold of climates. Great production can be found here and layers of textures that make one become enveloped with a massive wall of sound.… Continued →

Revival Hymns Releases Brand New EP

Revival Hymns just dropped a brand new 3 Song EP titled “Birth Pains”. This is their first new music in over 7 years. The indie/shoegaze band has garnered much interest here in the states by way of Finland/Germany where the members reside. You can listen to the new song “Praise for the Bereft” below. “Incredible”, “Breathtaking”, “Inspiring” are not words to merely toss casually at artists in regards to igniting false hype around something a journalist may find especially appealing (or a record label deems “Important” for us as writers to check out).… Continued →

Song of the Day: Veil of Ashes - Without Eyes

Veil of Ashes was a college rock band from Oakland, California, who debuted with the critically-acclaimed album Pain on Graceland Records (an imprint of Frontline) in 1989. While they had started out as a post-punk outfit with goth leanings, most of that influence had faded by the time their debut hit. A second album The Young and the Reckless: The Regression of Veil of Ashes was released on Blonde Vinyl in 1992, but it was actually a retrospective release of earlier demos. That same year the band shortened their name to Veil and released their final studio album (before taking a long hiatus and re-forming in the late 90s) Mr.Continued →

Radical Radical Drop Another New Song, "Middle Aged Masterpiece"

Radical Radical drops another really great song titled “Middle Aged Masterpiece”. This is a heart on the sleeve, extremely honest, and completely vulnerable. This expression of age through the lens of someone hanging on with hope in their heart, and love in their eyes is nothing short of extraordinary. Inspired songwriting with pure pop-punk spirit. I love this song so much and the first one that dropped, “Misfit Toys”, is just as good. If this is any indication of what’s to come with a full length or EP, then we are quite possibly looking at something mind blowing.… Continued →

Huntingtons Bring "Get Lost" to Vinyl and Tape

Sexy Baby Records and the band, Huntingtons, are bringing the classic 1999 album – “Get Lost”, to vinyl and tape once again. The Ramones-esque album was an instant classic and further cemented their place in our hearts, minds, and music players back in the day. Led by the hit single “No Pool Party Tonight”, the album blazed through song after song of pure punk rock glory and didn’t let up for a second. I loved their T&N contributions but the band has a vast discography going all the way back to 1995 (and an album that dropped last year in case you missed it).… Continued →

Song of the Day: East West - Song X

Not to be confused with the AC pop band East to West (lol), Cali’s East West were a driving force in the rap metal scene in Christiandom along with EDL, Pillar, Beanbag, etc… I actually saw them live in Greenville, SC in the early 200s with Pillar & The Benjamin Gate. Known for their unabashed view on Christianity with the band name derived from Psalms 103:12, they were known as Rachel’s Silence at one point. They have had many songs which I would consider to be outstanding including, Seven, Thru 2 U, Breathe & Closure, but my fave is today’s SOTD.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Balance Of Power - Shelter Me

British progressive power metal band Balance of Power is what I would consider a unappreciated gem in the genre. Forming in circa 1995, they have release 5 full lengths & one comp. Vocalist Lance King eventually joined in 1997 & left in 2003 & I would think he is the most well known member as he was in Pyramaze, Avian, Defyance, Ilium & Shining Star, all of whom I have heard over the years. Today’s SOTD hails from the Perfect Balance LP which does not have an appropriate cover so I chose the one we here.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Briertone - I Am Jacob

Briertone is quite possibly the only Christian-associated outlaw country act to exist, and their tenure was sadly short-lived. The group mixed dark cinematic rock rock with banjo for an end result that was fascinating in a way many other artists could only hope to emulate. Sadly, the group is no more – but lead vocalist Adam Pasion continues to write new music and the indie-pop act Goldboot spawned from ex-members as well. Check out Briertone’s flagship track below and Spotify embeds for the new projects.

Song of the Day: The Bubblebaby Experience - The Big Blue

I’ve got a confession to make. I don’t know a lot about electronica. As much as I love genre-fying musical artists and trying to pinpoint them within their style or scene, I just can’t get my heard around the hundreds of subgenres of electronic dance music. I was never one for going to nightclubs (where the genres and all its cognates developed), and the scene is just too huge to know thoroughly without being immersed in it. However, I do know what I like, and occasionally an artist or album comes along that just sounds good.… Continued →

Light The Way Working on Album 2

Light The Way are back in the thick of recording for their 2nd full length record. This will be a follow up to “False Memory Syndrome” which released back in 2018 on the now defunct Indie Vision Music label. Make sure to check the band out on all digital networks and give a listen to their songs. They are extremely talented, fun, and full of unrelenting energy. There really aren’t too many pop-punk-hardcore bands with a strong Christian message like Light The Way. They are one of a kind and you are sure to find something to appreciate in their music.… Continued →

Allen Odell Releases Inspiring New Song Featuring Benjamin Daniel

Allen Odell just released an inspiring and dreamy sounding new song that is both laid back and poignant at the same time. A telling song for a challenging time we are in. Adding backing vocals of Benjamin Daniel just adds to the many layers this song already consists of. Check out “West Lawrenceville” below. The song deals with grief and heartache from a loss of life through the lens of hope. This is released as a 2 part single along with “Little Sparrow” so make sure to give that song a listen as well.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Ancient of Days - If Confusion Were A Virtue

The late 90s/early 2000s had some great emo bands including The Juliana Theory, Brandtson, Acceptance, Further Seems Forever, Dashboard Confessional & today’s SOTD band, Ancient of Days. The background of this band is they were musicians before they became Christians & had played the bar scene back in the day. The LP was released by Rescue Records whom had released bands such as Dogwood, P.O.D.& some hip hop acts. Check out these worshipful lyrics that moves me to tears. Some day… This will all make sense to me… When faith is all I have to give… Still all I want is you Lord… Filthy… I come before you everyday… Broken on my hands and knees… You see past the sin in me… Fighting with myself again… Filling up my emptiness… Your love Fills the loneliness… Waiting for you to speak to me, Patiently… I listen to your voice calling me… Nothing can compare to the promise I have in you… Knowing that you’re right here next to me…

Song of the Day: The Calicoes - Read

If you turn the Christian indie shaker upside down, not too many psychobilly bands fall out. One of the first and best was The Calicoes, from Texas. They released one fantastic EP called Rumble (the title a contextualized reference to the battle between good and evil), and a full-length named Custom Acceleration. For my money, the EP is the better release song for song. It’s more primitive and raw, which suits the style better in my view. You can’t go wrong with any of those 6 songs, but check out track 5, “Read.”… Continued →

Tommy Green (Ex-Sleeping Giant) Launches New Heavy Band, Holy Name

You all need to check out this phenomenal new project from Tommy Green (Ex-Sleeping Giant) called Holy Name. Check out the song “Fall On Your Knees” (Feat. Brook Reeves). It’s an amazing representation of how Faith, Christianity, and Music in general should intersect. This my friends is the future of heavy worship and heavy music in general. Two songs have been released so far and you can listen to both below. This should send shivers down your spine and a fire in your heart.… Continued →

Is Punk Dead?

Sure, the title feels trite – a conversation that has happened a hundred times already for decades. But I’m not approaching this from a strictly musical standpoint. Instead, my focus is largely ideological. Punk, and even other genres like outlaw country, centered around ideas that ran counter to the mainstream narrative. But now, it feels like what many of these artists believe or fight for lines up curiously with the same things coming from the media (an undeniable extension of the political structure as well as collateral of the the consolidation of journalism to under ten companies) and pop artists alike.… Continued →
