Song of the Day: The Forerunner - Constant Battle

Love this song. So heavy & so meaningful. The band goes by just Forerunner now & I play them on my Ripper Radio show. Check out these lyrics. Why do I always give in, turn to the things that torment my soul, when will I finally submit, and give You all I am, Lord break me and rip these chains that always hold me down, tears from my eyes as I can’t resist, I am once again, once again, being taken away in the wrong direction, Lord take me away from this bondage, from this bondage, I don’t want to be a slave to this world, I want to run away from the pain but I can’t, I do not need you, I do not need you any more, I need to stand my ground, and look you in the face, I need to stand my ground, and put you in your place, I need to stand my ground, my King is here, and look you in the face, He lives in me, I need to stand my ground, whom shall I fear, and put you in your place, my King is here as I point to my chest, He is alive in me, no more will I succumb to darkness I am set free, my chains are broken, I am set free, because my Savior went to the cross and died for me [x2], I am released from this bondage, and the enemy tried to bury me, but I won’t, I won’t, back down, and I will look him in the face, no, you weren’t from the bottom, you were sent from Hell, you sent to bring me down [x2] and now I send you back to hell.… Continued →

Song of the Day: No Innocent Victim - Strength

Emerging from the original wave of Spirit Filled Hardcore (or SFHC) came southern California’s No Innocent Victim, AKA N.I.V. In contrast to their SFHC peers like Unashamed, Strongarm, and Overcome, who often integrated metallic influences that were becoming more popular in hardcore, NIV stuck to their old school roots with a “Loud Fast Rules” mentality. In fact, their old school approach to fast and heavy hardcore played a part in sparking a revival of the style, which eventually evolved into “tough guy hardcore,” essentially an update of that old school sound with added breakdowns and heaviness.… Continued →

Islander - Better Day

Islander has some cool songs. They are also known for having an interesting stage presence, what with JR Bareis and his costumes. Well for Islander’s new video for their song “Better Day”, it seems to be Vocalist Mikey Carvajal this time, with his cheetah print sleeves. But not to make that the point of this, the song is very uplifting and pleasant. It reminds me personally of some P.O.D.’s more uplifting songs. Check out this great band and their album Power Under Control that came out last year via Victory Records.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal/Hardcore Bands That You May Not Have Heard Of

These are some bands that were sort of popular, but didn’t get very far. Hopefully this sheds some light to the underground SFHC Scene or more appropriately, SFMC Scene. 5. One Way/Raid Christian metalcore/hardcore One Way formed in… I don’t know when. The 80’s. The band did not have very much success or really any publications. Other than one in HM in 1991. But Raid, their next band, had a little more success. Same genre as One Way, but with a Straight-Edge message, alongside the uplifting Christian message.… Continued →

Conveyer Starts Working on Third Album

The melodic hardcore band Conveyer has started to work on their third studio album. After the release of their Victory Records debut, When Given Time to Grow, the band has spent the last year touring, playing countless shows with countless bands, including Colossus, Comrades, Ghost Key, and many more. Recently, the band put out a post on their Instagram page stating they were hard work on their third album. The band will release more information soon I’m sure. Be prepared for that!… Continued →

ForeverAtLast - Shoreline

Another band I want to highlight is the melodic punk band ForeverAtLast which released an explosive collection of songs last year in the album “Ghosts Again”. The band is touring constantly and you may have caught them at a show this past year. Think of Paramore meets Children 18:3 meets Anberlin meets Heartsounds and you’ve got a good impression of what this female led punk band sounds like. “Ghosts Again” available now wherever fine music is sold. Check out this music video for the song “Shoreline”.… Continued →

Islander - Bad Guy

An album I’ve been enjoying since it was released back in August is by the band Islander. The album is called “Power Under Control” and it has that Blindside meets POD meets Deftones meets Papa Roach vibe. The album was released by Victory Records back on August 5th (stream on spotify below) and this is a video for the track “Bad Buy” off the album. Enjoy! Continued →

REVIEW : Darkness Divided - Written In Blood

The record oozes nostalgia as it channels the pure things that made metalcore shine in the early 2000s. Guitar solos, stellar clean vocals, and an overall gritty tone abound on this wonderfully fun record.

INTERVIEW : Before There Was Rosalyn

Some people are just really legit people to hang out with. Hilarious, sincere and not afraid to have a chill conversation. The guys in Before There Was Rosalyn fit this description quite well. During our rather long conversation on a freezing cold winter night outside the Ukraine Center in Philadelphia, photographer Chrissy Dumire and I listened as they shared with us why it is they’re sticking it out on the hard road of touring, how they stay accountable to each other and even how much they love their moms.… Continued →
