Five Iron Frenzy are adding some exciting “Old School Set” shows around the country celebrating the band’s rich past and fun, sometimes goofy, nature. The band just announced 2 more shows for the old school sets and they are happening right here in Southern California this August. First show is on August 9th at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. and the 2nd show is at House Of Blues in San Diego. Both shows will feature Craig’s Brother and The Ruffolos. I’ve got insider news that a few members of Too Bad Eugene will also be playing in the lineup for Craig’s Brother that evening, similar to the CB lineup that played a series of shows in Canada around Red Bridge Fest last year (look it up on YouTube).… Continued →

Lugnut was a hardcore punk band from Northern Florida, only active for a few short years in the late 90s/early 00s. Their sound was somewhat melodic, but they were way too intense and too fast to be pop-punk. Some have called this sound skate punk or new school punk. They only released one full-length album entitled . . . Like the Dickens and a split release with fellow JCHC punk Officer Negative. Both releases were on Screaming Giant Records. I’ve heard a pre-release, unmastered copy of the new Homeplate album and it GOES HARD! I wasn’t expecting this but I do love it and can’t wait till all our IVM friends stumble upon it. Even though this isn’t an IVM release, I can’t help but sing it’s many praises and send a little promotion their way. This is a more grown up Homeplate and a more heavy sounding album both from a production standpoint and their musicianship in general. It reminds me of “Chuck” era Sum 41 (and the latest album) meets Strung Out meets Four Year Strong meets old AFI with a little modern hardcore thrown in for good measure.… Continued →

I’d like to introduce you all to this really killer new melodic/skate punk project called Feeble Attempt. It features members of MEANS and The Holly Springs Disaster and has a huge sound that is going to please fans of all these old school melodic punk bands as well as new school stuff just dropping in the scene. Caustic Eminence was a raw, fast, hardcore punk band from Marion, IN. The band formed when they met as students at Indiana Wesleyan University. They released 2 demo cassettes before issuing the fabulous Another Day, Another Dollar 7″ through Cling Recordings in 1996. Not much else is known about the band other than their recorded output. Their take on punk was fast and furious, raw and lo-fi, contrary to the gamut of pop-punk bands that were popular at the time, which were moving towards more sophisticated sounds and production techniques.… Continued →

We have just begun 2024 and a much loved Los Angeles based pop-punk band named Heart Like War has just come out of the gates swinging with their brand new, shall I say “Surprise” EP. Allan R Aguirre who was the charismatic frontman of world renown Christian underground punk band from the early 80’s-early 90’s called “Scaterd-Few” (along with Spy Glass Blue and Men as Trees Walking), is back with new music. It is unknown at time of this post whether it’ll be in band form or strictly solo work. The preview video I viewed mentioned “Auditory 2024” but also unsure whether that is the title of group/project. More news to come. The band Too Bad Eugene have just launched a new kickstarter campaign to help fund the finished recording and mix on the new album. I’ve already heard an early mix of a new song titled “Shaking My Fist At Clouds” and I must say, this is the absolute best the band has ever sounded. It’s an extremely catchy track with tons of melodic, fast punk rock, along with great sounding BGVs like the band has become well known for. Legendary east coast punk/post-hardcore band JOEY’S LOSS that many had never heard much of outside of their home state of TN. and some small Indie Vision Music promotions, are potentially staging some sort of return.
