REVIEW : Heath McNease - Be Clean Again

Be Clean Again feels like a Sunday. The weather is somber, you’re feeling introspective, and everything just seems rather slow. Very little of Heath McNease’s latest effort (save for “Believe”) could be deemed upbeat from a musical or lyrical standpoint. This album is 54 minutes of slow hip-hop meets folk, never lacking in sincerity or seriousness. While McNease is most proficient at handling this task – being the guitar playing and singing, yet thought provoking rapper, that he is – Be Clean Again made my eyes (and heart) feel a shade heavy.… Continued →

New Ledger Song - "Completely"

Last year, Jen Ledger (drummer for Skillet) released her debut solo EP, “Ledger” (see my review HERE). At that time, she really seemed to be right on the fence of electronic/pop and rock. Just yesterday, she released a new song titled “Completely” and to me, this one sounds like she’s really moved over to the CCM/poppy side of things. It’s a beautiful, worshipful (is that a word?) tune, celebrating the love of God. Check out the song below and you can also see the story behind it HERE.… Continued →

Introducing: Apollo LTD

I mentioned this band back at the beginning of the summer in my post “7 Bands I’ve Discovered on Spotify This Year” but since they’ve got a new single out this weekend I thought I’d take time to give them a proper introduction. Apollo LTD is a alternative pop band from Nashville, TN consisting of Jordan Phillips and Adam Stark. The band is signed to Residence Music, a subset of Centricity Music, who goal to help Christian artists who desire to make more than just worship songs.… Continued →

Introducing: Fleurie

You may not know who Fleurie is but there’s a good chance you’ve heard her voice before. The Nashville-based artist has had her music featured in a lot of TV and movies recently (The Shape of Water, Bones, and Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger to name a few). She’s also appeared on songs like NF’s “Mansion” and House of Heroes’ “Crash.” Oh, and she’s written music with quite a few other artists like Sarah Reeves, Local Sound, and Cody Carnes.… Continued →

Lauren Daigle - Still Rolling Stones (New Song)

Lauren Daigle is on fire with these new songs off her forthcoming new album “Look Up Child” which is out September 7th. This new song “Still Rolling Stones” can be heard below. Lauren’s voice has never been stronger than it is now and this strength is clearly evident on “Still Rolling Stones”. This song truly captures her talent and showcases an artist on the rise. There is just something entirely unique and original with her new songs. Her voice captures the heart of the song and proves that “worship” doesn’t have to be a mundane, stale, and overrated “Christian” term.… Continued →

New Moda Spira Album

Moda Spira Launches Campaign for New Album

Moda Spira, the electro-pop project of Latifah Alattas of Page CXVI, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for her new album, due this fall. 2016’s self-titled release saw a hazy mix of synths, passionate vocals, and diverse songwriting. The upcoming album chronicles the unexpected end of her marriage and her journey through pain. Subsequently, we can expect more serious subject matter, though the album (from the brief samples we’ve found) will carry much of the same electronic, pop, and orchestral mix seen on its predecessor.… Continued →

Talkie Releases New Album "Fundamental Things"

Talkie, the band comprised of a few former members of the great Blood & Water, has returned with their 2nd full length effort called “Fundamental Things”. Right now for next 48 hours you can download the album for $1 via their bandcamp here. Great production quality and catchy indie-pop songs but I seriously want one more Blood & Water album. REVIEW : Ledger - Ledger EP

When it was announced that Jen Ledger would be releasing her debut solo ep, it filled many with a sense of excitement, rivaled only by an insatiable curiosity as to what we could expect from it. Would it be hard rock, similar in nature to her band Skillet? Pop? Electronic? Rock? The answer is yes…yes, it is. The Ledger EP, which drops this Friday, is a fairly diverse offering that has a little something for everyone. A common thread throughout the EP, is a distorted synth type sound, though there’s keys and drums that compliment it in all the right places.… Continued →

We Are Leo - Light Up My World

We Are Leo just released the hot brand new track titled “Light Up My World” and it can be heard below. This modern pop/dance song appears on the “God’s Not Dead: A Light In The Darkness” soundtrack which is available now from Dream Label Group. I know this is super pop oriented but there is a certain endearing quality about this song. Great lyrics and fits well with Easter. Stream the song and compilation below.… Continued →

REVIEW : Samecity - "Lowlands"

Nashville, TN is known for a number of things, but the thing that tops the list is music. If you were to walk down Broadway, each restaurant and bar you pass has live music going on, all of it diverse. It’s on street corners as buskers play their hearts out for little more than the love of the music and the heart to share it with others. One band that stands out in the middle of all of this is Samecity. Samecity is a pop rock outfit that formed in 2014 and draw influences from a variety of sources, some of which include Needtobreathe, Switchfoot, and The Civil Wars.… Continued →

Black Pages - Back Down

Black Pages' "Back Down" is a Refreshing Wave of Experimental Art Pop

We haven’t heard much from James McCurley’s solo project, Black Pages, for several years. His first EP was a promising mix of ambient, pop, and singer/songwriter, but his new single, Back Down, takes things up a few notches. Much like his previous tracks, Back Down is largely subdued and a bit pensive, though it feels a bit more stream-of-consciousness as well. Pop sensibility is mixed with a manner of progression, with no discernible chorus, changing tempos, and vocals reminiscent of Silver Sun Pickups. It’s proof that pop music does not need to be predictable nor inane.… Continued →
