Risen add 2nd Vocalist

Risen, up and coming metalcore band from Indianapolis, had just added Travis Fields as second and “unclean” vocalist. Fields cut his teeth in Indiana band A World Apart before joining Risen this year. The band, also featuring Jammin Shue on guitar (also formerly of A World Apart), clean vocalist Chandler Ballinger, Mason Beard Beard on drums (also of Symphony of Heaven, Mystic Winter), bassist Heidi Dendler and guitarist Hyperion Zhang, are currently writing their debut album through Apollyon Productions.… Continued →

Messengers Emerge From a Long Slumber to Knock Us All to the Floor With Their Thundering Metal Assault

How do you like that headline? Was it over the top? Well when you have a powerful band with a heavy presence like this band – MESSENGERS (Texas), you can’t help but feel floored. This band released an EP called “Anthems” 10 years ago on the Facedown Records imprint, Strike First Records and it blew a lot of people away. Part thrash, part metal, part rock n roll, and pure heaviness. The band has emerged from their slumber after releasing their last Ep in 2013, to sort of announce a return?… Continued →

Song of the Day: Zao - Lies of Serpents, a River of Tears

Zao had already made a name for themselves, working up from the underground, with a 7″, cassette demo(s) and 2 full-lengths. They were quickly becoming known for taking hardcore in a new direction. I remember a friend telling me that although he loved the riffs on their sophomore effort Splinter Shards the Birth of Separation, he also found them really hard to dance to. With the third album, they would push the metallic limits of hardcore even further. From those opening riffs you knew this was going to be something special.… Continued →

Then It Ends "Darkness" (New Song)

If you’ve been keeping up, Then It Ends is the project begun by former A Past Unknown vocalist, Grant Lilly. Up to now, the project has released “Despised” (Full and acoustic versions), “Welcome Home”, and “Addiction”, all of which have been pretty well received. Today, Then It Ends released a new track, “Darkness”, which, in my own opinion, is the best to date. In 3 weeks, the project will release “It Is Well”, but for now, check out “Darkness” below and let us know what you think.… Continued →

Then It Ends - Addiction (NEW SONG)

When former frontman of A Past Unknown promises muisc from his solo project, Grant Lilly delivers! Today, the project, Then It Ends, dropped its second single, “Addicition”. When asked about Then It Ends and this new single, Grant had this to say: “God has inspired me to continue music. I absolutely love metalcore but I do love so many other genres as well. This song is about giving up addictions. All of us in one way or another have addictions whether we realize it or not and need Christ to take them out of our lives.… Continued →

REVIEW : War of Ages - Void

Two thousand and nineteen has proven to be quite the year. One day, a bunch of rowdy hooligans on Facebook are planning how best to invade Area 51, and the next, there’s a War of Ages occurring on planet Djent. Void places an emphasis on groove, which is kicked into full gear by track three, “Blood of the Earth.” That being said, the more conservative fans need not fret; War of Ages are still our metalcore heroes from Mars. “Sulphur and Salt” – a Star Wars metal opera – capitalizes on what is perhaps the band’s greatest virtue: epic choruses.… Continued →

Wait For The Day - Nothing Will Feel The Same (Official Music Video)

So I was watching RadioU video channel yesterday and caught a video from this band – Wait For The Day. Apparently we covered them back in 2017 but then they slipped back under our radar. The band has been making solid music for the past few years and this latest video was posted 10 months ago. This song appears on the band’s latest release “The Sun Will Drown” which is available now. Give these guys a listen and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Post-Hardcore with a certain metal influence.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Devil Wears Prada - My Questions

I became a fan of The Devil Wears Prada in 2011. There were many reasons for this: peer pressure via a friend, the positive review in HM Magazine, and Dan Seagrave’s dark and mysterious artwork. Dead Throne made me realize what I’d been missing out on. It’s near impossible to choose a favourite song from a near perfect album, but in my iTunes library, “My Questions” has the most plays. To my knowledge, the band has never played this song live, but the mesmerizing guitar work and depressing bridge echo in my head often.… Continued →
