First things first–merry Christmas everyone! It’s been a challenging year, and many of us are ready to see the back of it. I always post my Song of the Day picks on Friday, so I was pleased to the lucky draw for Christmas Day! Of course, it had to be a Christmas song, and there are lots of good ones to choose from, even from our niche scene.
For those unfamiliar with Adam Again, they have deep roots in the Christian music scene. They started out in the California scene of the 1980s through Broken Records and later Brainstorm Artists. Singer/guitarist/lyricist Gene Eugene was co-founder and co-owner of Brainstorm. Even those unfamiliar with Adam Again may recognize Gene’s moniker from one of the dozens of released he produced for Tooth & Nail, Alarma or other record labels.
While the band normally dabbed in alternative rock with heavy doses of funk, grunge, and modern rock, they released a hauntingly beautiful rendition of the traditional Christmas carol “Angels We Have Heard on High” for the legendary Broken Christmas album released in 1988, on–you guessed it–Broken Records. The compilation featured tracks from Adam Again as well as Undercover, J.C. and the Boyz, The Holidays, 4-4-1, and others.
