Kevin Schlereth to Release "Alembic" Collaboration 8/11

Kevin Schlereth has become a bit of a household (or more appropriately, house show) name over the past couple years due to his relentless touring, his intimate songs, and his community-based approach to music. Alembic, an archaic word referring two connected vessels, is an appropriate title for this forthcoming collection of songs. This time, Schlereth and friends have paired their art with six paintings by Danielle Monzelowsky. The creators had this to say: Alembic is a cooperative art and music project between Danielle Monzelowsky and Kevin Schlereth.Continued →

TIMŌRĀTUS Slam You With Mediocre Metal

TIMŌRĀTUS have gone in a new direction. Taking their unique metal sound, adding in a heavy dose of sarcasm and FUN, then hitting you over the head with a heavy dose of mediocre rock n’ roll. Why do I keep saying that? Well their new comedic metal album is titled, “My Life in a Mediocre Metal Band” and hits the streets on July 29th. You can preorder this great collection of METAL songs right here. It’s like hearing Extol join forces with The Locust, Devil Wears Prada, Faith No More, Bloody Sunday, and Weird Al all on one album.… Continued →

REVIEW : Roemer - Straight Bars and Guns

Roemer is a stripped-back acoustic/indie folk project. If you’re anything like me, folk has to be some really special to catch my attention—a quirky vocal style, effective use of harmonies, skilful playing, or best of all hard-hitting and/or poignant lyrics. If it has one or more of those, I’m more likely to pay attention. Straight Bars and Guns was written from an outsider looking in. Much like myself, Roemer is an American citizen living abroad. He in Berlin, me in the south of England. Being an American who doesn’t actually live in the United States gives one an interesting take—neither more nor less accurate, just different.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Black Carnation - One Fine Night in a Daydream

Jangle Pop. While the term might not mean much to most listeners today, it was the dominant form of alternative rock (on both sides of the Atlantic) in the late 80s to early 90s. As 70s punk gave way to 80s new wave and synth pop, underground bands were looking for more earthy sounds, moving away from sythesizers and often including acoustic guitars and instruments borrowed from folk rock. There was less emphasis on the lead guitar licks of glam metal and arena rock, and more emphasis on jangly guitar rhythms, hence the name.… Continued →

Song Premier: Pilgrims - Motherless Sons

Pilgrims is the new moniker of songwriter and composer Timothy Mann (formerly known as gdansk). This time around, Mann’s lyrics are more spiritually driven, his compositions more spacious, and his posture more vulnerable. “Motherless Sons”, the project’s debut single, sees Mann highlight his film-score sensibilities collide with the gentleness of worship and lament. The song runs the gamut of the beatitudes, highlighting God’s love for those the world deems unworthy. Mann had this to say about the song and project: I didn’t think I was going to do this again.… Continued →

Audiophile - Cold (New Song Stream)

Audiophile return with another new song. This one is titled “Cold” and will be available on all digital platforms Friday July 24th. You can listen to this fabulous new song, below. “I wrote this song about a time where I was recovering from being too emotionally invested in some relationships and friendships that left me burnt out. Personally, I try too hard to make bad things work. After people let you down enough times, you lose hope that there’s anything good left. Your heart starts to harder and you grow cold to good experiences that are happening in your life.Continued →

New Death Metal Band, Mohler

There’s a new brutal slamming death metal band in the works, spearheaded by Grant Mohler (also of Crushing the Deceiver). The studio-only project will be called simply Mohler, and will not interfere with Grant’s other band, as there will be no touring. The heavier-than-thou project will feature a host of big-name guest vocalists as well. More details to come . . .… Continued →

Jodi Essex - Weightless (Live)

I’d like to shine a light on independent rock artist, Jodi Essex. She just released a LIVE video for her song “Weightless” off the album “Irreverent” that is available now. Check out “Weightless” below as well as some more info on the artist. If you enjoy these sounds then make sure you purchase her CD right here. I can best describe her sound as a cross between Crystal Lewis, Amy Lee, Fireflight and Bon Jovi with a strong emphasis on spiritual story telling and worship centered lyrics.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Cross-Check - Open

I first heard of Cross-Check a few months ago through social media channels. Shortly thereafter, I was asked to review their mini-album Overwhelming Odds for Heaven’s Metal. What I found on that release equally excited and bewildered me. The band has a way of weaving some very interesting and somewhat disparate influences into their sound. While they clearly take as their foundation a traditionalist line of old school hardcore, they manage to weave such diverse sounds as street punk, post-punk, rockabilly, and occasionally even surf rock.… Continued →

Micah McCaw - Imbalances

REVIEW : Micah McCaw - Imbalances

In spite of its title, Imbalances feels balanced lyrically, melodically, rhythmically, and spiritually. It's an incredibly impressive album that feels so fresh and unique compared to most modern bands. It's artful but not pretentious. McCaw speaks with both wisdom and humility. The songs flow dynamically but it always feels natural. If you're a fan of complex bluesy prog-rock then this album definitely deserves a listen.
