REVIEW : Nate Parrish - Soul Surgery

Nate Parrish creates music unlike the majority of “popular”, “mainstream”, “indie”, and/or “punk” bands of today. He takes his years of experiences, wraps them up in a 14 song epic arrangement, and unleashes it on a weary music scene ripe for hope and change. From the artwork to the song choices, you can’t help but feel the music running through your body and infecting you with nothing but pure positivity. I liken the music of Nate Parrish to music of yesteryear that spoke truth without boundaries and shared honesty in ways most of the modern day brethren are too afraid to venture out into.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Getting to the Heart of Goth Rock: Skot Shaw of Leper

What does a Christ-oriented gothic band do during a global pandemic? I had a lengthy conversation with Skot Shaw to find out. We talked about tours in Mexico, how he came to be part of Jesus People USA, and the goodness of God. IVM: Why don’t you start by giving IVM readers an introduction to the band. How did you get into doing goth music or death rock? Why does Leper exist as a band? Skot: Can open. Worms everywhere! I’ll tell ya . . .… Continued →

Song of the Day: MxPx - Want Ad

Y’all better to get ready to put your boxing gloves on. You ready for this? Pokinatcha is the best MxPx (Magnified Plaid) album. Why? It was melodic, but still very much punk–bordering even on old school hardcore at times. It’s by far their most unique record, before they settled into the more polished pop-punk sound that everyone remembers. To be clear, I have no problem with the direction they later took (except for maybe moving further away from Christian spirituality and theology as the years went by, but that’s another post altogether).… Continued →

PREMIER: Former Ruins Debuts "Sparrow Eyes", "Doxology"

We’re excited to give you a first look at two tracks off the forthcoming Former Ruins album, No Creature is Hidden. The title comes from a lyric in “Sparrow Eyes”. Concerning the two tracks, listeners will find music anchored in both spirit and flesh. These songs wrestle against the gnostic schism, accepting the “already and not yet” reality of the world where the Kingdom has come. “Sparrow Eyes” looks at being seen and being known by God – and the terrifying repercussions of this. “What we are is known to You.… Continued →

REVIEW : Light The Way - Long Story Short

Light The Way began in 2016 and started off releasing their fantastic debut ep, “Grace”. They followed that up in the following 3 years with – “Dude, Lame” (EP) in 2017, “False Memory Syndrome” in 2018, and “Dad Gang” (EP) in 2019. I’m proud to say I had the most excellent opportunity to be involved in the album release process for all of those releases. I will forever be grateful for the chance to live out my dreams releasing positive, faith-centered, pop-punk music with a strong message about hope, love, grace, and peppered generously with fun and witty lyrics.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Gideon - Leif Erickson

Gideon is a melodic hxc band from Alabama. I saw them in their early incarnation when they just switched vocalists to Daniel Mcwhorter. Actually interviewed Timothy Naugher back in college. This specific song was chosen due to the show I just got through Vikings Valhalla which is set 100 years after the original series. Leif is heavily portrayed in the show. Lift your hands in worship to this one! MY GOD IS LOVE!!!! Pour out your Grace Rain down your love You are the Joy, That floods my heart NEVER AGAIN!!… Continued →

Song of the Day: Altars - Eternity

This hardcore band hailed from Colorado Springs. They infused their heavy chugga chugga rhythms with melodic parts without ever getting whiny. This led some fans and writers to dub them post-hardcore, which isn’t fully accurate, but I can see why they said that. What strikes me about this song is the passion behind both the music and the clear-cutting lyrics: Where is the hope? Where is the love? Without these your system will self-destruct While it might seem that the song was aimed at society in general, it is actually pointed at the failures of the Church to stay true to the pure message of the Gospel.… Continued →

Former Ruins to Premiere Two Songs Off Their Upcoming Album

Muncie-based Former Ruins has returned with the first fruits of a new LP that will inevitably serve as a powerful follow-up to Large Startling. While the former dealt with faithfulness and its intersection with cynicism and deconstruction, the new album appears to be on of mystified faith and adoration, rife with understanding that the hypostatic nature of Christ has bold implications for what it means to be a physical being. Next Thursday, 4/14, we’ll be premiering two new tracks so you’ll be able to see first-hand how the project has evolved during a (seemingly) quiet spell.… Continued →

The Case For Heaven and the Story of an Immigrant Family Meant for Bigger Things

I’ve been moved lately to share this film (The Case for Heaven) and especially the story being told from the Sandoval brothers. In case you weren’t familiar, Gil and Mani were both founding members of a band called “Safe Haven“, years ago. They have had some songs on various Indie Vision Music compilations, and I had that special connection to their music. In fact some of their music will make it into this film. It has been years, but I believe I even saw them live with Olivia the band back in the day at Azuza.… Continued →

Names Without Numbers - You Do The Talking (New Lyric Video)

I’d like to shed new light on this recent new song from Names Without Numbers. The song is called “You Do The Talking” and it’s hard to argue that this isn’t the BEST song the band has done. The band without a doubt have a diverse sound yet are extremely melodic, with precise attention pointed toward addictive melodies, and unforgettable harmonies. They are an alt-rock band with indie roots clearly showing, not afraid to shy away from a certain pop like influence. They straddle the line between the raw, unfiltered power of a rock band set to storm the stage with power and fury, and a band clearly wearing their pop side on their sleeves.… Continued →

GFM - Framing My Perception (New Song)

GFM just dropped a brand new song which is their first for 2022 and as a part of Rockfest Records. The 3 sisters have found their sound and that sound is astounding, taking them to the next level. I’ve always thought these girls had it in them to record soaring music that would touch the lives of many but just needed a little extra push. “Framing My Perception” is that perfect push and if this doesn’t get played on radio or have their video shared, then tell me I’m wrong.… Continued →

Caedmon's Call Re-emerge From The Shadows to Drop Hints

In what may seem like a surprising move, a band that got their start with their debut record in 1997 – “Caedmon’s Call“, who inspired many and wowed fans across the globe with their original blend of music and lyrics, are teasing something BIG. Click on their website here and sign up for the newsletter list. They are saying “something NEW (and old) is happening SOON” on their website. Any guesses? Maybe a re-release of their debut for its 25th anniversary?… Continued →

Islander - Skin Crawl feat. Korn, ZAO, Living Sacrifice (Official Lyric Video)

This absolutely insane new song from the band Islander featuring a line up that’ll make you drool over, just hit in lyric video form. Not only that but the entire new Islander album released on Friday to much surprise and it hits HARD. Check out the song “Skin Crawl” featuring Brian Head Welch of Korn, Dan from ZAO, and Bruce from Living Sacrifice on really heavy new song that mixes a combination of genres and styles into a chaotic yet somehow melodic, set of songs. Islander “It’s Not Easy Being Human” is out now on all digital networks.… Continued →

The Blamed have been dropping little hints about recording a new album and well friends, they’ve done it! The band is in a studio NOW, recording what will be their next full length record. April Fools, Are You There?

I would just like to take a moment before I start posting all these news stories from my home here in sunny Southern California, to say, hello, are you there? Seriously though, this April Fools may have gotten a bit out of hand in regards to the amount of Makeshift3 news stories and if you were offended just keep in mind, most of us have been severely affected by the sheer multitude of SPAM. This may be the very last post mentioning Makeshift3 on Indie Vision Music.… Continued →
