Ukraine’s Holy Blood formed in 1999, originally playing hardcore, before turning to death metal and eventually settling on a folk/black metal fusion. The band has released 6 full-length albums and an EP since 2002, with later releases featuring a strong folk influence. Waves are Dancing is their sophomore release and features a near-perfect fusion of folk metal and extreme metal, with elements of melodic death metal, thrash, and black metal. Well, Furnace Fest 2023 just wrapped and has come to a close. Although I wasn’t able to attend myself in person, I was able to check out some live performances online that looked killer. I see that Drain was a highlight for a lot of you as was sets from Turnstile, MxPx, Chasing Victory, ZAO, Living Sacrifice, Ghoti Hook, The Insyderz, Terror, Bane, and many more. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this new Wolves At The Gate covers album titled “Lost In Translation” but I sure do. It’s really done with the best production and sound you can get. Their take on many of these classic songs is nothing short of extraordinary. I’d go as far to say that some of these songs have been reinvented with a new fervor courtesy of Wolves At The Gate.
