“If You Keep” is Cool Hand Luke’s first release since the 2017 album Cora. Mark Nicks wrote the song and recorded it with long-time collaborator Brandon Shattuck at Parafonic Recordings in Orlando, FL. The video was directed by Brandon Ransbottom, who also directed the video for “Taking Chances” in 2017.
“If You Keep” captures the sentiments Nicks experienced while cradling his infant daughter, Lucy. The video features appearances from Nicks’ wife and children along with actor, singer, and dancer Elli Berry playing the role of Lucy coming into adulthood.
“I wrote this song when Lucy was a baby. I was rocking her, praying for her, and imagining the day that she will leave our home and strike out on her own. Will her mom and I have given her what she needs? Will she be able to cling to the hope of the gospel, even when everything around her looks contrary to it? Such a good song! Cool hand luke will always have a special place in my heart as their music has encouraged me and spurred me on for many years now. It is a blessing to have some new music, and looking forward to hopefully more!
