Nate Parrish (Kutless) to Release Hard Charging Punk Rock Album June 19th
Nate Parrish (Guitarist for Kutless) embarks on a glorious, adrenaline filled, punk rock journey. Complete with soaring choruses and hard charging punk rock rhythms. It’s like if Mike Ness and Social D intertwined with Brian and The Gaslight Anthem while sitting at lunch with Face to Face, Bruce Springsteen, and Rise Against. It’s an interesting combo that definitely makes sense and this sound is something that not only appeals to me but should with many of you. It’s a classic yet current sound and hits hard in the gut with relevant lyrics tied to the world we live in today.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Starflyer 59 - This Recliner
After releasing last year’s opus Young in My Head, Starflyer 59 are already back. The veteran indie rock band have just released a new single, “This Recliner” and boy oh boy is it good! Fueled by inspiration from the best of his 80s new wave AND shoegaze influences (The Church, Psychedelic Furs, Jesus and Mary Chain, et. al.), the man truly knows how to write a pop song. Sometimes I think his skill lies in brevity. Rather than dragging stuff out, founder Jason Martin always leaves you wanting just a little bit more.… Continued →

Relent Drop New Track, "Low"
If you’ve yet to hear Relent, you’re missing out. The nu metal/hard rock outfit from San Antonio came out swinging with their debut ep, “Heart Attack” last year that was a front to back slammer. The band has more recently signed with Rockfest Records with plans to re-release the debut ep, which will include their newest song, “Low”. The song deals with the subject of depression as well as addiction and talks about the hope we have to overcome it. Excited to see what the future holds for these guys.… Continued →
Song of the Day: Extol - Reflections of a Broken Soul
When Extol’s first album came out in 1998, the Christian hard music scene had been dominated by hardcore and the then-developing metalcore sound. This was being spearheaded prominently by labels like Solid State Records (a division of Tooth & Nail), and Facedown Records. Enter Norway’s Extol. No one quite knew what to do with them. Sure, there was still an active underground metal scene, but Solid State had not signed any heavy metal bands yet–only hardcore bands that dabbled in metal. But Burialwas a full-on heavy metal cacophony, bridging subgenres–progressive, black, thrash and death metal–often within one song.… Continued →

Celebrating the 16th Anniversary of Pennylane "From Paradise To Parking Lots"
16 years ago Indie Vision Music released a little known EP by a little known emo/indie rock band from Kauai, Hawaii known as “Pennylane”. So much has changed in the years since both professionally, musically, industry, and personally, that those years seem like such a blur. I just remember a friend passing this self released EP to me at one of my Chain Reaction shows that the band released on their own and loving every second of it. At the time IVM was releasing albums as part of it’s web presence and a year before the zine would launch (2005).… Continued →
Starflyer 59 Return With New Single via Velvet Blue Music

This one has that classic sound of their past efforts wrapped up in a warm, smooth package ready to be enjoyed by the masses. This sounds like the perfect continuation of “Young In My Head”, an album released last year on Tooth & Nail Records. I’m so happy to see Jason Martin continuing on with this project and releasing more new music.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Deitiphobia - Attack the City Walls
While metallic industrial became the dominant form of industrial music in the mid 90s and beyond, it was the dancier stuff that held my attention better. I liked the heavier stuff too (Circle of Dust, Mortal, Generation) because it gave a new spin on metal, but after the while the genre seemed to blend into one. Industrial-dance, or electro as it’s sometimes called (not to be confused with the hip-hop/funk genre from the 1980s) combined harsh vocals and samples with danceable beats into something altogether different.… Continued →

Have you heard of Real?
The band released one LP 2001’s Breathe on the short lived Mercy Street Records that also released Seventh Day Slumber’s first 2 LP’s & 2 little known band’s: Broken (rap core) & Salt (southern rock). Real’s sound could be described as nu-metal with a hard rock twist. Not much can be found on the band, but from sites listing the CD for sale. Consisting of 11 tunes, the band rocks hard and is one of my favorite albums from the early 2000s. Indie stations had played a few of the songs Breathe, Let It Be & Downfall.… Continued →

This LP is set to be the most ambitious and lyrically-bold work the band has done so far and sees the band crossing even more genre lines to make music that is undeniably authentic.

Song of the Day: Point of Recognition - Day of Defeat
SoCal hardcore band Point of Recognition (or Point of Wreckinthangs as they were affectionately known by fans) released 3 full-lengths, an EP and a pair of split releases before disbanding in the mid-2000s. Members popped up elsewhere in the scene, but the band’s existence was sadly short. Nonetheless, their impact was felt strongly in both the Christian and secular hardcore scenes. Playing a heavy form of “new school” or “tough guy” hardcore, they stuck close to their roots, not following into the more and more metal-influenced versions of hardcore that were developing rapidly around them.… Continued →

Relient K Drop Live Album
In something of a surprise (at least to me), Relient K released a new live album on Spotify minutes ago. The 15 tracks that appear on the release include one track from Two Lefts, a few choice selections off Mmhmm, and the rest are from varied releases after that. Looking forward to giving this a good listen. You can also pick up the live vinyl HERE, however it appears to contain 9 songs rather than 15. Who’ll be checking this out??… Continued →
