YouTube Hands Over User Data to Viacom
This should shock many of you. Jonathan posted this news blurb on Taking Over but I thought it was relevant enough to post here too. Apparently a U.S. Federal Judge has ordered Google Inc. to hand over Viacom the records of every video users have watched on the video sharing site, YouTube. He’s doing it again! More free Derek Webb (and Sandra too)
Based on the success of a similar project with his previous record, Mockingbird, Derek Webb is offering his latest, The Ringing Bell, for free through a new service called NoiseTrade. Listeners can choose to either tell three friends or pay whatever dollar amount they wish in order to receive a link to download the album. Another artist using NoiseTrade, which just launched this week, is Derek’s wife, Sandra McCracken. Her album Gravity \ Love is also available, along with fourteen other artists (for now).
